Futch n Steward don’t matter. Those people never saw Marciano in person or trained w him. Obviously Goldman, Dundee, and Cus damato have all spoken glowingly of Marciano.

once again the burden of proof is on u. Not me. Sausages or not they were over 200 and knocked out sooner then other opponents. Please show me how Marciano would struggle w men over 200. You have no proof of this claim. While the proof to the contrary can be shown.

I know what you’re saying about “top rated” but once again the burden is on u. He beat two ranked men over 200 (that’s quality) beat another several that were rated. Now. Please show me in all his fights why he would struggle w “quality” big men. I know u can’t and that’s y ur getting frustrated and calling names.

Yeah, not a fan of h2h fantasy match-ups, but realistically the swarmers are the ones that would struggle the most with the huge size differential against more modern fighters. Sure, there were some 230+ lbs fighters during Rocky's era, but not with the relative skill, speed and stamina of the ones we've seen from the 90's onward.

A 280 lbs juggernaut with the relative speed and skill of Bakole would have been an absolute unicorn back then (and somewhat in the 90's as well). And, yes, Bakole was beat by Hunter (who still would have been very big in the 50's), but not by coming right at him.

Skill, speed & stamina are not words I’d use to describe Ray Mercer, & either did anyone else in his day.

    • Unofficial AP scorecard: 97-93 Mercer
    • Unofficial Philadelphia Daily News scorecard: 97-95 Mercer
    • Unofficial HBO scorecard: 95-95
    • That's the scorecards of the Lewis fight.
    • Do you think Marciano could emulate them?
    • Do you think he would even be around to hear them announced?

You hang your hat on one fight in this career loser’s entire CV. I’ll hang mine on a proven winner at the highest level.

    Rocky aside.

Bakole would not enter the fifteen rounds era at 280lbs. He is not Carnera who can carry that weight while looking mighty handsome.

Hunter did exactly what a smaller man would do to maximize his advantages: move his head, ride shots, be in or out, smother inside, throw combinations up close to leverage the difference in handspeed and reach. What one lacks in size is often made up in being a smaller, more nimble and elusive target. That was actually the preference of the trainers of yesteryear.

    Good
swarmers with excellent conditioning could be a menace to the bigger man (targets) especially if they'd neglect conditioning, as up close is one of the safest, most efficient distances to stay at for the shorter pugs. Continous movement forward was the very tactic Archie Moore used to beat the much taller Nino Valdez at heavyweight. What really hampers such approach is the modern indulgence of clinching, or at the very least the decline of inside fighting and grappling tactics.

And the only one of the three applicable to Marciano is stamina.

I’ve got lazy, undisciplined, & over-rated for Mercer after reading this thread.
