Sometimes you got to get those rounds in. Without boxingfan this thread would be over by page 2. Now it's on page 9 and counting, you'll be in tip top shape for any forum argument now!

    Exactly!!!!! hahahaha

Our aerobic fitness is way up there at this point, a bunch of us! Maybe he's more akin to a heavybag, something you flog the hell out of that never hits back. The only way it can hurt you is if you damage a hand. Lets all be mindful of our fingers as we clatter the keys educating this dolt.

I'm sure he is biding his time, taking his licks to finally give back a good one. Almost like Marciano but at this point he is more of a Roy Williams with a very impressive gas tank.

You aren't looking at this from his point of view, this isn't a 12 rounder swag, it's a 57 pager. Sure he is a bit behind on points but that's nothing for a real champion.

Yes and you definitely mean Roy Williams in a fight rather than sparring hahaha.

Punching bags do sometimes break their chains and heaven knows he's copped a helluva beating..........maybe he will land on our foot when the chain breaks.

You haven't shown us the coroner's report yet saying his death was a homicide.

How did we get from Cleveland Williams to whether Jake LaMotta was a fatty?

I'm sure that if you told BF to teach someone about weight divisions he'd tell em about the types of gloves over the years.

I'm not saying I believe this I'm talking about my impression about Cleveland Williams current reputation. I was watching a documentary on Cleveland Williams and reading some wild youtube comments a few years back. Think lurking on this forum I remember reading similar comments. I've gotten the impression hes become very overrated.

If we had a poll about fringe contenders who people think could beat your Foremans, Alis and Louis's I reckon Cleveland Williams might win.

    My opinion on Williams...

When we were asked to rank Liston's opponents, I was one of the few who attempted it, and I ranked the Williams wins after only Patterson, Machon and Foley, despite the fact that Cleve' was ranked #10 and unranked for the two fights:

    https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/rate-sonny-liston’s-wins.724479/

Sometimes, a fighter is defined by the mythos surrounding him more than his actual accomplishments in the ring. The Big Cat is one of those guys. The truth is always somewhere in between.

Williams simply did not have the actual wins to be quite up to his legend...Terrell, Miteff, Rischer...just not there. He also had a bundle of losses that you can explain away all your like, but they are sitting these in his record for all times.

However, he was clearly better than his record in his prime, and got the commendation of Mr. Sonny Charles Liston himself. He hit like a mule, and had, for a lack of better, an athleticism which would have served him better if he had some kind of amateur career.

His legend is always going to be that he was a guy who could have beaten Patterson based on the eye test of his capabilities-- but there will never be any evidence of this based on what he actually accomplished.

He will always be named along with guys like Shavers, Lyle, and Ruddock as someone whose punch, in the eyes of many fans, should have made him a champ.
