The Fury that showed up against Wilder 2 tries the tactics against Gerry Cooney does he pull it off or does Cooney KO him
Hard to say,Kronk Fury is not as mobile and is far too easy to hit as well as the fact that many who fought Cooney said he was a terrific puncher ! I would have more faith in boxer Fury beating Cooney tbh .
The one thing Cooney was consistent in is losing when he stepped it up. Cooney had a big punch but his chin was kind of fragile. And when he went down he tended to stay down. Fury is just far more proven at high levels and while I suspect his chin isn't exactly iron, he always gets back up to win.
Pretty hard to disagree with that. Even with his stop-start career, Fury has etched a proven record. As much as I hate the guy, it's a bit of a no brainer. The Cooney that fought Holmes would have really pushed Fury, post Holmes Cooney wasn't worth a pinch of ****.
It’s scary how many have picked Cooney, Fury is an elite fighter, it seems his stock has gone down massively because of the Usyk defeat, people see it as a big L because he’s a Crusierweight or something, but Usyk is a bigger man than Holmes, Fury would stop Cooney.
it's just styles. Fury is better than Cooney and so is Usyk but Cooney is better offensively than Wilder and Whyte (who Fury tried to box at range) and he's been dropped more, so what happens when Fury tries to walk Cooney down with the more aggressive Kronk Approach like in the second Wilder fight ? It's a genuine question
Fury typically adapts to the fighter in hand, so if trying to push Cooney back didn’t work, then he wouldn’t do that, even under the Kronk Gym, I feel like he’d outjab him one the middle of the ring and, occasionally on the backfoot and just outboxes him at range, ties him up if it gets up close, then when Cooney gasses, he takes him out, especially if Fury was switching to southpaw occasionally, I don’t think Cooney would be able to adjust technically.
Still feel Fury would take him, Cooney is actually a lot lighter, by like 30lbs, when he gets Cooney on the backfoot, I very much doubt Cooney ever had to fight a taller man by going backwards, Cooney put the earmuffs on, Fury would get him to bring his hands up by jabbing and would keep finding the lead left uppercut when he brings up the earmuffs, Fury has more ways of setting up punches and is more versatile than Cooney offensively and defensively, Cooney didn’t have particularly fast feet, so I don’t see him being able to close the distance quickly from the outside, especially whilst going backwards, and if it did end up up close, Fury would clinch him, lean on him and push him back and not let him get punches off on the inside.
