Hey guys I was watching this video and I got to thinking. Barrera didn’t stop him and a lot of the big shots that he took, was a cross between him been off-balance and getting rocked. do you think that he stood a chance if they did have a rematch ? I know they were talking about one, but it never happened

Not in my opinion. Barrera was just wrong for him.

do you think Emmanuel Stewart was the right trainer for him for this match ? or do you feel the trainer wouldn’t have mattered, because he was gonna get beat regardless ?

Hamed always fought like he wanted to. He got away with a lot of stuff that other less athletic boxers would not have. It made him a spectacular boxer to watch but a technically unsound one. Barrera is the sort of mean-as-a-rattlesnake, technically sound ATG that a guy like Hamed is gonna come unstuck against. IMHO.

The little cat showed he didn’t have the stomach for any kind of return. He fell apart after the loss so if he couldn’t beat Barrera first time out, he sure as hell wasn’t going to later.

No, Naz's hands, self confidence, and willingness to train were all ostensibly gone after the MAB loss.

MAB's still got the # of a focused, prepared Naz.

    No, b/c
    1. Barrera continued to hone his boxing skills after that fight, &
    2. Barrera could probably beat Hamed even w/o being as ultra cautious as he was in their fight. I think a more confident Barrera would be more willing to let his hands go & beat Hamed even more soundly.

Naz is the most hated personality in the sport, so everyone will say no. It is entirely possible Naz could have beaten Barrera had he been more serious. He took the fight 30 pounds overweight, he entered the fight weight drained with worn hands.

If Hamed rematched him he would have lost again, as he looked passionless and awful in his last fight vs Calvo.

Naz was able to land early on Barrera in their actual fight, had we gotten in prime condition Prince, it is not out of the realm at all he clips Marco.

    Not at this stage, no.
By 2001, IMO, Naz was an accident waiting to happen. And I say that as a fan.
His dedication to training was waninig, he'd become overly reliant on power, he was struggling to adapt to the right trainer (since splitting with Brendan Ingle) and he ignored the warning signs that other fighters were starting to poke holes in his game.
I think it was way beyond him to defeat an elite level pro like Barrera at that point.
I like Barrera - and I think he would always have been a problem for Naz - but I do think Hamed probably had a fairly decent shot at beating him a few years earlier, when he was a bit more elusive, explosive and had his head in the game.

It's been a long time since I watched it. Did Nas win any rounds or have any decent moments?
