Worst HW champ H2H?

When I said he never beat another American with a winning record I mean after the O Brien win.

I'm more explaining why people in his day wouldn't appreciate him than whole heartedly agreeing. I'd favor him over every HW champ that came before him but none after. Got to remember Jeffries retired, now guy coming off a loss outpointed Hart then he fights 2 guys with losing records(which I don't consider title defenses) then should have lost his title to O Brien. By the time Burns got rolling a lot of doubt had set in.

Jim Flynn was a title defense that aged well. He didn't not deserve the shot. But looking at his resume Flynn was in his padded resume era. Also while Flynn had great power for his size and stayed relevant for a decade neither of those things neccessarily apply here Flynn hadn't put on the weight that gave him that power yet and he didn't have the reputation as the guy who'd been around forever yet either.

 

Apparently he and Eddie Mustafa Muhammad conceived the perfect plan to beat Tommy, I saw a video on it not too long ago.

I really hate to pick any Heavyweight Lineal Champ as the WOAT. They put it together at least once. Champions all!

 

You’re repeating the same thing as a bunch of mindless Corbett detractors here. Ive heard this line so often it’s a peeve “Body punch by a MW har har” it’s embarrassing with the resources available these days.
A body punch is all placement not power, doesn’t matter that he was a former 160lber.
Fitzy was a real pro and knew a helluva lot more about boxing then anyone here - to quasi quote him “couple inches over and he wouldn’t have felt it” If you ask George Benton any man punching properly at 168lbs KO’s anybody and that wasn’t just for the body.

 

Patterson, Braddock, Burns, Spinks and Norton? They’re probably the most beatable group.

 

God f I hate this stupid forum sometimes, Yes Willard was so useless a late starter who won the lineal HW title when it mattered.
What I like most is it’s all “eye test” when me, you and everyone here basically knows nothing - that is besides maybe 4 guys here? who know anything about real boxing.

This … I can find an argument that everyone being mentioned here is being sold short, especially Braddock and Patterson. Of course Patterson’s issue is he was a hell of a lot better fighter after losing the title than he was when he held it.

 

The case for Tommy Burns, is that every other lineal heavyweight champion without exception, would have held significant physical advantages over him.

 

I don’t believe Spinks did. Those fights stink to high heaven.
