Tunney vs Marciano

Greb is light years ahead in lower weight classes but in LHW or HW he is nothing like Marciano.
Prime Rocky had hunger that past Dempsy did not and prime Rocky punches way harder than Dempsey.

 

Most of Greb’s greatest accomplishments were at LHW. He still battered 180 pound Norfolk who was much faster than Marciano, 194 pound Bill Brennan who was a murderous puncher and decent technician in his own right. Tunney was also well into in the 180s in some of their fights. And that’s not even bringing up the way he danced circles around Dempsey in their so-called sparring match/3 rounder, who was much faster and more powerful than the Rock. Marciano’s physical dimensions wouldn’t be unique to Greb.

 

There's nothing to show for Marciano punching harder than Dempsey, that's a wild claim.
Greb's best win being Gene Tunney might actually be better than any win on Marciano's record.
Even if we were to assume Marciano's better, is Tunney worse than a shot over the hill Louis, a way past his prime Walcott, an over the hill Charles and a 41 year old Moore? Because by your estimates a prime Tunney lasts less than all those guys, which is ridiculous.
He gets taken out five rounds earlier than Roland Lastarza? Are you serious?

 

Marciano being a “much harder puncher” than Dempsey is pretty baseless, Dempsey is much more proven against bigger heavyweights and he was more of an early finisher compared to Rocky who was more of an attrition puncher that grinded you down over time. Dempsey is vastly faster though and if he couldn’t hit Greb I highly doubt Rocky will

 

Greb was good against 1920s HWs because they were weak unlike excellent tehnicians from lower weights.
Greb did not ever beat anyone as good as Louis,Charles or Walcott if we are talking about hw or even lhw.
Dempsey was just faster but did not have Marciano power,chin or stamina.

 

Greb even said that after 4 or 5 rounds Dempsey would got him.
Dempsey also never beat single great HW unlike Marciano hell he even lost against Tunney who was not as great as Ezz or Moore.

 

KO ratio against bigger and better opponents also it is easy to see difference between power of these two.
Marciano is one of the hardest hitting heavyweights that ever walked on the planet while Dempsey was like Tyson, hard fast punches.

Nope, Ezzard and Moore were way better than Tunney and Marciano knocked them out both.

 

We have footage of Brennan, he wasn’t weak in fact he was quite capable. As are Dempsey, Sharkey, and even Wills in some footage.

Tunney, Loughran, Tommy Gibbons, Kid Norfolk are better than the versions of Ezzard Charles, Walcott and Louis that Marciano fought.

 

Charles was 2 years older than Marciano and Moore was 38, and fought almost one decade after Marciano fight.

 

Nope because those never beat any good HW unlike Ezzard or Walcott and so is Moore.

 

Moore self-admittedly didn’t have legs anymore at that stage and Charles was shopworn as evident by losing to the likes of Layne and going 50-50 after the Marciano series.

Dempsey also beat more big men, and better ones.

 

Loughran beat Baer, Tunney beat Heeney, Risko and an old Dempsey. I’d say this is equivalent to Rocky beating the versions of Louis, Ezzard and Walcott that he did. They were spent and old, and that’s also not evidence that someone is a better light heavyweight. The light heavyweights that Greb beat were much better than an old Archie Moore and shopworn Ezzard Charles.

 

Age isn’t the only a factor in what makes someone over the hill, which Charles clearly was at that stage. Some fighters get shopworn much earlier.

 

Who gives a **** if he was just two years older than Marciano? He had already been fighting for 14 years by then. Marciano retired after 8 years of fighting and was even younger at retirement than Charles was in their first fight.
Ezzard was dropping fights to Johnson, Valdez and Layne of all people before meeting Marciano, he was clearly slipping.
Moore being competent while being ancient does not change the fact that he was ancient, which Tunney wouldn't be.

 

Charles won 9 fights then lost 2 and won 2 so he was not shopworn.
Moore fought 10 years later, he did not beat any good HW but no one could stop him at LHW.

Marciano beat better man on his resume than Dempsey inlcuding Layne twice, Ezz twice, Walcott twice, Joe louis and Archie Moore.
