Anything on your minds? I never really understood the Monzon love. Sure he is a middleweight ATG.

Then you see him on the eye test against the ATG peers like Hopkins, Robinson, Golovkin, Hagler etc and I just go:nusenuse:

Jack Dempsey - held the heavyweight title hostage without defending

Floyd Mayweather - avoided top prime opponents (Williams, Margarito, prime De La Hoya, prime Mosley), was matched cautiously, fought mostly faded old guys (Mosley, Hernandez, De La Hoya) or smaller men (JMM, Hatton, Pacquiao).

    Canelo

Once his confidence bubble was burst against Bivol you all saw how risk averse he really was.

Carlos Monzon, I like him a lot and his 89 wins is very impressive. Thing is though he was always the much bigger man in pretty much every fight and he doesn’t really have a signature win against a great opponent his own size.

Ali. Beat many cruisers, many gifts from judges and refs, lost to Spinks. Great rivalry with much smaller Frazier. Lost rivalry with Norton. Never finished rivalry with Foreman. Won rounds by missing punches while dancing. Great fighter? Sure. But GOAT? No way.

Never needed to finish rivalry with Foreman. Foreman was mentally **** after that fight.

I don't see the rationale for Langford being as highly rated as he is. I like the guy but I don't think the film of him is all that impressive and his resume doesn't really lead me to believe he's a top 5 lock like it does for some. I also deeply dislike Roy Jones Jr. and think he's severely overrated by boxing fans who are wowed by his speed and power and forget his technical ineptitudes and his poor opposition. SRR is looked upon as messianic among some boxing fans who go with whatever the "experts" tell them to think to the point where it almost sacrilege to critique him or his patchy MW record. He's still top 5 of course I just don't like how he's treated as a saint. Bob Fitzsimmons is rated more on his accomplishments than his opposition imo. Yes, winning titles at MW, LHW, and HW is impressive but beating an old NP Dempsey, Corbett (who I've never seen the fuss about), and Gardner doesn't justify a top 10 slot for my tastes. Neither LaMotta or Cerdan deserve top 10 spots at MW imo.

Claim to fame is length of reign. Not quality or fashion of wins. No surprise fury toyed with him then AJ even after getting smashed into the canvas still managed to overcome the old dosser. What kind of amazing champion has a man half out on his feet sitting on the ropes then telegraphs a bunch of left hooks missing and letting him recover. Wlad that's who. Couldn't push AJ over either.

It's definitely Marciano, mf went life & death with past it atgs/hofs. Place bro in another era and he would be a decent but not such a high-regarded contender.

I think Bob Foster is overrated hes considered an ATG Light Heavyweight but his best win is vs Dick Tiger who's more known for his Middleweight achievements. Foster also ruled in a weak Light Heavyweight era and missed out on a truly great Light Heavyweight era in the late 70s/early 80s.
