Are you stupid lmao? The Williams fight was never gonna happen (Williams said himself Floyd never ducked him), The Oscar fight was never gonna happen as Floyd was signed by top rank at the time, Mosley DUCKED Floyd by blaming a toothache and “vacations” as a reason to not fight him Mosley just came off his most impressive win over Margarito (Floyd fought him right after!), Hernandez was 32 when Floyd ended his career on a stool while coming off an unexpected dominate win against Azumah Nelson a year prior! De la Hoya came off a dominate title win a fight before he fought Floyd! And you’re trying to downplay his wins against JMM, Hatton and Pacquiao by saying “they were too small”?? Embarrassing
Andre Ward. He was very solid but I for the life of me cannot see him remotely competitive w RJJ or Toney. I dont see him beating Hearns and after seeing Kovalev spark him (and get robbed) IDK that Ward could beat Nunn or Benn either. Also, unpopular take, I think GGG puts Ward on scared legs just like Kovalev did...and GGG was a MW not SMW. tl;dr I dont regard Andre Ward in any way at all. I dont consider him an ATG at all
I get what you’re saying here, although I disagree. Ward never looked very impressive, and he generally seemed to win by negating his opponents moreso than asserting himself on them or hurting them….. ….but he beat some very good fighters, and for me, that earns him an ATG spot.
Yeah, we know. Same reason Floyd didnt fight Margs or DLH or Manny in 2009. Its always weird when "boxing fans" peddle this nonsense because IDGAF about money I'm not making, but its always Floyd fans that prance around like imaginary para-legals to defend Floyd... Margarito was Mosleys most impressive win? Did you start watching boxing in 2007??? The ****? And Mosley was 38 years old when Floyd fought him... Yes, Floyd beatig Genaro was a good win. It must be said it was Gennaros last fight so makes one wonder how much he had left. What point were you trying to make? What? Floyd was bigger than all of Hatton, Manny, and JMM. I would say Floyd was also bigger than Judah, Gatti, and Corley, among others, but it was never a problem for Floyd to fight smaller guys only a problem against bigger guys. That's why Winky Wright never happened (Floyd called out and ducked - Floyd famously wanted same-day weigh in for Winky AND that Winky could only put on 6 pounds or something), that's why Margarito fight never happened (and Floyd likely would've won but he didnt have as much confidence as fans, clearly), that's why 2009 Manny fight didnt happen (and, no, Floyd wouldnt have just "outboxed" him a la 2015 - that Manny threw caution to the wind and was even more unorthodox but Floyd being Floyd had to wait 6 years for the fight after JMM changed Manny forever). Floyd nutboys always wanted discussions to be one way. Its pathetic
Mike Tyson lb for lb and age, if you froze him in time when he became champ, and every other fighter in history had to be as good as Tyson was at that age or bust, no one would ever be better. I think there was a point in Mike Tysons career where if you measure him against every other fighter ever at the same age, he is bar none the best. Usyk is going to look human against everyone he fights at Heavyweight. Just like Tyson did. It's tough to always fight bigger guys. Tyson was only 5'10.
They're both mid. These are more HoFs achievement-wise to me but yeah. Also Ward would have been exposed so badly with Beterbiev arrival.
I mean, at that point he was a 41-year-old former champion in his retirement fight, which is obviously a factor. With that said, the fact that he didn't just unleash smart combos (or the kitchen sink) on AJ at that point, sticking to his predictable one-twos and single left hooks showed that he couldn't snap out of his formulaic (if successful) boxing style when it mattered most. He's still a top 10 HW ATG, but painfully unadaptable.
A lot of people don't know this but they used to mock Monzon by calling him "Costco Monzon" instead of Carlos Monzon. It's something to do with the similarities of the words, like the syllables and the first sound, phonetically.
For me it's Joe Calzaghe. A fantastic boxer but he really doesn't have a great body of work. His resume is very padded and his entire prime was spent fighting C level opposition and his best wins came when he was out of his prime already Kessler, Eubank and Hopkins are his best wins imo. Hopkins while old, was still very good but it was too close a fight for my liking, he also struggled somewhat with a 39-40 year old RJJ (who was completely shot at that point), I am aware that Joe's hands were basically made of sand at that point but he just doesn't have the body of work for me. Lacy is another win you could consider good but again, Lacy was a hypejob
Calzaghe for me. Followed his career at the time, mostly, with great frustration. The vast majority of his wins were padding his record against low level opposition. Lacy was highly overrated. And Hopkins and Jones Jr fights only happened when both had lost and were past their best - despite years of talk about those fights happening when they were both on top. His best win is Kessler, IMO. A good win but I feel Calzaghe is propped up by his unbeaten record vs weak competition
