Ennis moving up to 154 and Karen becoming the new IBF champ seems very likely after today's purse bid.

Jaron Ennis signed with arguably the biggest promoter in boxing. Yet the trajectory of his career is still ever so underwhelming.

Boots should just go to 154, I think he beats them all other than Crawford and he might even beat Crawford

No one should be criticizing Boots' side for this, this all lays at the feet of the IBF.
    Please say you're trolling....................

I think it spoils his plans as he didn't want to go to 154 until he had cleaned out 147 (a legit dream).

But I digress: Boots and his team should not be criticized for his next move whatever it may be. He defend his title, it's against someone he won 36 rounds against on 3 scorecards. He reached out to the other respective champions and got nothing, he would almost certainly be criticized if he does move up, he's just in a no win situation.

Ennis needs to move up. This talent cannot be wasted he could beat Tszyu, Spence, Madrimov, Conwell and Bohachuk right now, he needs those fights asap.

147 is a truly **** division in my opinion so to me a move up is a no brainer. I don’t think many sensible people would criticise him going to 154

I think he deserves the chance to be undisputed in his native weight class though

It's probably a waste of time it would take about 3 years because these guys aren't risking it until the money is worth it. They'll price themselves out until they get their big check. Even Keith Thurman wanted 10 million to fight Ennis. The right move is to move up and challenge the big dogs, people are calling him a weight bully anyway for trying to stay at 147

That explains it then - he must have taken some hard punches from Karen.

Seriously though, it's good that he's moving up - there are more meaningful fights for him at 154 and he's probably having some difficulty making welterweight.

Rematching Karen even if he wins every round again in the most ridiculous rematch possible would probably hurt Ennis's legacy.

If it is, that's all the more reason to conquer it then abdicate the throne IMO. I can definitely see some on here criticizing him for not taking over a "weak division" when he had the chance to. He's been criticized going 12-0 against someone, and for taking 7 more punches in a fight against a common opponent with Crawford, the criticism is gonna follow him no matter what. Sensible people wouldn't but let's be real, most criticism doesn't come from sensible people.

2-3 years out of a career isn't all that bad. Boots is young, one of the youngest at the top at 26........he doesn't have those time burdens that some would. I personally don't believe he's ever gonna get Crawford or Spence even if he goes up, everyone else at the top at JMW is under 30 as well, so they would still potentially be there when he does move up.

    Conspiracy theory :

Brian Norman Junior's father thinks Eddie Hearn’s reasons for not putting together the unification fight that 'Boots' Ennis wanted against his son, Norman Jr., and then losing the IBF purse bid for his mandatory challenger Karen Chukhadzhian, are part of a plot to get Ennis to vacate his IBF title and move up to 154.

This would free up the belt, move Ennis out of the way and allow Hearn's suspended drug cheat Conor Benn the chance to claim that belt and then take advantage of his position as champion to set up lucrative fights in the US.
