How do you see Canto Vs Wilde playing out?

Hmm. Never thought of it before.

I'm not a Wilde expert, but from what I've seen and read Wilde was an excellently skilled and accurate boxer in his own right, alongside his power.
A KO for him is definitely a possibility, especially if the ruleset favoured him more.
Canto could definitely box with him though. I would have to examine Wilde in more detail, though I'm more inclined to pick him anyway. These are both Top 5 of the weightclass IMO.

I know there were things Villa exploited vs Wilde, though I recognise Wilde was past prime in this bout.

Does anyone come close, in any weight class?

One thing about Canto which must be mentioned, is he was an unbelievable ring general. Once he had his opponent in his trip, he kept them there and never looked back. His jab and feet were so good, and he was so absolute in his fundamentals it made world level fighters falter and reach a state of lull. Thing is, he had to get into his rhythm with both his feet and his jab to do so. It's why a big lump who wouldn't do weird **** and male you break your stance or stutter, like Avelar, got nowhere, but someone who seemed to go out of his way to do the opposite of what the book says, then do it in double time, like Park did. When he couldn't get his jab going, he had big issues. It's why he couldn't ever figure out the weird unorthodoxy of Shoji Oguma, but completely rewired the technical complexity of Betulio Gonzalez.

Rough already covered Canto's worst stylistic match-up in his amazing post on page one, citing Jung Koo Chang as Canto's kryptonite with his probing, off-kilter lead, use of odd angles, freakish speed and unorthodox pressure; reinforced by Canto's struggles with Park and Chang's success vs Chitalada. As a similarly bad match-up, but different style match-up for Canto, I tend to think Venice Borkhorsor is pretty damn bad for Canto. A taller, hugely imposing, aggressive southpaw. It's like he's back in with Oguma but one who's way better. Horrible match-up.

Yeah, in terms of pure skill, he is.

Keep in mind he is tiny though, and that doesn't necessarily extend itself.

But give and take, he is the most literally drilled (combined with talented) there is. He can riff off the left arguably better than any fighter there is, arguably. Who, possibly, would replace him? Gonzalez?

Borkhorsor must have been ****ing monstrous at flyweight, he was skilled and physically intimidating even at bantam.

Rough, when talking about skill level, I would suggest having a gander at Chatchai Sasakul. About a year ago I wanted to see Manny Pac's first title win and was stunned to watch this Thai boxing his ears off. Manny pulled the fat from the fire with a one-punch KO but I was impressed enough to see more of the beautiful boxing from the Thai. I watched both of his fights with Yuri Arbachokov and really just came away stunned and wanting to applaud. I think Canto still has it over Sasakul but if you're just in the mood to see some incredible boxing skills, give him a look-see.

Great mention Scar. I have watched some of him years ago and was impressed. Not extensively though. Never scored his bouts either. @haNZAgod had a great highlight of him recently.

Clip of Miguel Canto showing masterful defense. Still one of the best defensive boxers IMO.
