Are people becoming a little hypocritical when it comes to Usyk?

Has he not been making big money in his last few fights? Usyk is the top dog. He's making big money no matter who he fights, so why not go for someone else in the top ten or fight some mandatories?
You're missing my point, and I'm more referring to recent events. Fighting AJ a third time is basically what Fury did with Chisora. Both men were thoroughly beat twice already, and beaten again a third time for an easy payday. There's no real need for the fight.

Not sure how people are arguing AJ is number 2. His last 4 opponents have been mainly tune ups, and he was thoroughly outclassed by Usyk twice.
He's already beaten AJ twice, and it's hard to say who would be the next best after Fury because AJ keeps getting priority title shots while avoiding the other top contenders.
You cared enough to reply. Do you think Usyk, the first undisputed HW champ since Lewis, is getting paid pennies in his other fights now?

I also thought we were fans of boxers fighting the best opponents, not part of their promotion and accountancy team.

    Usyk actually fought tough competition

Fury ducked Usyk for 2 years and fought the softest opposition and milked his invisible "lineal" belt for years

I agree, I don't really want to see another rematch either. And all things being equal I'd rather see him fight someone new. Opetaia moving up and fighting to get a ranking for a mid-ish 2025 Usyk fight would be pretty cool.

But I have a feeling it's going to be a Saudi calling the shots and they love Joshua and see it as the fight to make. So what I'm conveying is that Usyk deserves some grace on this, more so than Fury who pretty much ducked and sat out any risky options time and time again. I suspect he only ended up taking on Usyk coz he was dragged kicking and screaming into it by the money on offer.

Usyk should face Jack Massey. It would be interesting to see if Usyk, who's apparently a soft puncher, would put him away.

Yes, defending Usyk and team for wanting a third AJ fight is bad in many ways.
    People are habitually hypocritical.

A third AJ fight is only reinforcing the corruption of Matchroom/Hearn/AJ and keeping that evil brand alive.
It would only happen due to 'brand money' since AJ lost twice and they just manufactured Dubious as a title contender a few months ago. Usyk and team would not fight anyone else they'd beaten twice.

It's also massive hypocrisy from Hearn as usual, since we recall years ago he and Froch mocking Groves for wanting a third fight when in fact Groves beat Froch up badly in the first fight and could conceivably have won, so it wasn't even a clear 0-2 situation.

Usyk would disgrace himself taking this fight again and pretending it isn't just for money. But I've thought for a while he could easily fall into a trap here and get done by the ever-manipulating Hearn. Usyk's manager is not as smart as Hearn and just as greedy. That fight could backfire badly. But Usyk wouldn't be the first E-Euro to get overconfident and be robbed for cash lure.

You would honestly have to be pretty dumb or extremely overconfident to take that third fight knowing they did their best to rob you the first two times, the scores were close, and you also haven't demonstrated the ability to KO AJ or even drop him.

While I think it would be preferable to see Usyk fight other guys (in order to boost his standing and give other fighters a shot), I don't think it's necessarily hypocrisy. He is, at least, fighting the previous consensus number 1 (Fury) and (for many) number 2 (Joshua) - it's not his fault he's beat them both and AJ, in particular, has worked himself back into position again (I know Dubois is upcoming and could change the landscape again). I do think it's a valid question - and I, for one, don't really want to see these rematches. I completely agree with you about that - no need for either an AJ or a Fury rematch, IMO.
But it's really not on the same scale as Fury's actions 2022 - 2024, who was talking the talk... But then facing a barely ranked guy (Chisora) and a debutant (Ngannou) when there was a very clear challenge to his throne waiting - and the world was waiting to see who the real number 1 was. I do take your point, and your frustration, but I just don't think the actions between Usyk and Fury are at all comparable.

It's worth noting that Usyk didn't drop Chisora once, but Parker managed it three times in one fight.

Also, since when was it suggested Usyk was a soft puncher? He's got plenty of power he just doesn't sit on his punches much or go for KOs.

I disagree that AJ has worked himself into position for a title shot. He has had three tune up fights (one against a novice) and one against a top ten opponent (arguably the easiest he could have gone for).

And yes, I get he was "intending to fight other opponents and it fell through", but in my eyes you actually have to evaluate these on the work done, not shoulda woulda coulda.

This becomes quite simple if Dubois showcases his development by putting away AJ this month.

AJ has looked good in recent fights, but he's been facing stiffs. Daniel had been taking on challenges, growing as a fighter and a man.

AJ v Dubois is a 50/50 fight for me. If Dubois gets it done then he's suddenly 'the young lion' and a rematch with Usyk, hyped around the low blow stuff and the strides Dubois has made since, will make perfect sense. It'll be for undisputed as well.

What the OP is really trying to say is :-

    Parker, Parker, Parker

    Uysk should fight Parker.

And maybe Usyk should, but if Joshua beats Dubois - and looks good doing it to scoop the IBF - then surely to hell anyone will understand why Usyk would fight Joshua if he fought anyone? It's not Usyk's fault that Parker/Zhang/Kabayel couldn't out maneuver Hearn/Femi for a crack at Dubois IBF?

    • Joshua will be IBF champion, giving Usyk a change to be 2x Undisputed - not that much of an achievement considering the circumstances, but still
    • Joshua will likely be the concecus #2 ranked fighter
    • Joshua brings the most reward for Usyk.
Assuming Usyk get's past Fury and Joshua destroys Dubois, the question isn't "Why is Usyk being hypocritical?", but more

Why would he fight anyone else?

The winner of AJ v Dubois is clearly the next best HW.

What I'm saying is pretty clear in the OP. Don't twist my words. I'm not saying Usyk is a hypocrite, but a lot of posters here are for indulging the double standard.

AJ has already lost twice, and Usyk dropped the belt. He's got another three mandatories he can fight instead. Did AJ ever give anyone he beat a rematch? Let alone twice?

Not clearly. Fury only has one loss on his record to Usyk. Both Dubios and AJ have additional losses on top of Usyk.

Fury remains number 2 until someone else beats him imo.

Not when they've both been beaten by Usyk within the past 2 years.
