There are weight divisions for a reason and it makes a complete mockery of having them when you have fighters who weigh 2-3 divisions more than their opponent by the time they climb into a ring with each other and that natural size advantage can and is often accompanied by a big reach advantage too. Not to mention we have 36 hour weigh ins now too which makes an even bigger mockery of having weight divisions. What next? 48 hour weigh ins? 60 hour ones? Yes fighters put themselves and their bodies through all of that hell because having a huge size, weight and often reach advantage isn't actually advantageous at all Obviously if you're a gigantic weight bully beating up on much naturally smaller opponents it isn't near as impressive or as difficult as beating up on opponents your own size, bigger or much bigger. And equally obviously gigantic weight bullies who are still beating fighters they're much bigger than, bigger than or at worst roughly their size in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th weight classes isn't near as impressive as fighters who are beating fighters who are way, much, or bigger than them when they move up in weight. However, ever so conveniently the weight bullying isn't a thing crowd (many of whom are huge fans of massive weight bullies) never make that distinction. They act like the weight bullies are doing the exact same thing as fighters giving away huge physical advantages when they move up in weight It's like affording multiple weight champ PED cheats the same credit as clean fighters for becoming multiple weight champs which predictably the exact same clowns do because they're massive fanboys of those too
Contract says fighter must make specified weight on a specified day, at a specified time. If a boxer does the above then in my opinion all is good. I am against rehydration clauses.
IBF to their credit has it. But dear lord the **** Canelo got when he asked his opponents for the same.
I feel obliged to knock the teeth out of anyone using the word in the thread title and smash the woman of his life, usually his mother. You make weight, you belong, that's it. You don't make weight you're not a weight bully either, you're a cheat.
Yeah, that's how this works. If you don't like the smaller fighter he's draining the opponent. And if you don't like the bigger one, he's a weight bully.
Made up term by people that don't train or compete A grown man calling another grown man a bully makes you sound like a *****
So if boxer A makes weight for the weigh in then rehydrates ten pounds that's totally fine, but his opponent boxer B turns up at the weigh in 10 pounds over weight, and that's what he weighs in the ring, he's a cheat. Even tho they're exactly the same weight when they fight?
In this day and age where weigh ins are the day before the fight you can count on 2 hands how many guys don't weight bully to some extent. It's basically a game of thrones, whoever is the best at rehydrating sits on the "creatine throne"
It’s definitely not ok for a boxer to consistently come in 10lbs or heavier than all of their opponents. An obvious bend in the rules. It’s also crazy dangerous for both sides. Notice how most boxing deaths occur on fight night even though like 95% of the punches they take is in the gym. That’s because a dehydrated brain is much more fragile. The whole thing should’ve been abolished decades ago.
Go back to same day weigh ins, that's the solution here. If they need a media event for the day before then do an extra weight in to make sure no one is trying to do an excessive cut and rehydration even with a same day weigh in. If they were standard practice it would be good, but in a world where they aren't it becomes another degree of freedom an A side can use to tilt the scales in his favor. If he's small for the weight then you gotta have the rehydration clause, if he's big then just carry on with the usual rules.
