I remember I read in another thread about when he was on the commentary and another commentator, maybe Teddy Atlas, rated another boxer, Alì iirc, above him and mf kinda started going to the rampage about this affirmation lmaoo
like bro... I loved to read boxers postin' on this forum like Whiterspoon but I can picture Holmes gettin' provoked after a simple, not harmful opinion from another user and going full ape**** lmao

It's good to know that guys like Witherspoon and Starling aren't so sour. I saw the video of them responding to questions on the forum not too long ago, but the video was years before I even got into boxing, so I never got the chance to respond to the thread or nothing. Hope they both get back on here sometime.

Idiotic Tyson would be top 2 top 3 in any era let alone the golden era only fighter that would beat him are Ali and Foreman he would wash anyone else.

After suffering through Larry's incredibly conflict avoidant Title Reign, I have decided to dismiss anything he says about anything other than the weather outside. And I double check that too.

Yep, those were great quotes from Smokin' Joe.He was a real no-nonsense,honourable man,and he just
happened to be a truly great fighter. There was nothing false or artificial about Mr Joe Frazier.

I saw a discussion with Holmes where he gave himself credit as, “the only man to ever stop Muhammad Ali,” but dismissed Foreman’s victory over Moorer with, “Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now & again.”

    What a buffoon.

Tyson would have spend a lot more time behind bars if he came along in the 1970s. Probably wouldn’t have even become a boxer, or if he did his career would have been interrupted by longer stints in jail/prison and kept him from reaching his potential.

Larry Holmes was a really great champion, but yes he does tend to talk utter drivel when
discussing his fellow heavyweight-greats.It really does dimish his image.

It's nonsense Tyson would be a favourite over 95 percent of the Heavyweights from the 70s except for Foreman, Ali.

Tbh, it’s not uncommon for fighters to not only afford themselves advantage over the later ATGs, they afford their contemporaries advantage also.

It all still feeds back to said fighter pumping himself up.

More or less saying “Not only am I better BUT all the guys I beat were better also.

I could be wrong but I think that Earnie Shavers also suggested that Tyson wouldn’t cut it in “Their era”.

Going back in time, I also recall reading Corbett state that Jeffries would beat both Dempsey and Tunney in the same night.

Such is the circle of life and the carried forward prejudices of fighters from past eras.

Some aren’t so biased but many are and they like to run with the old “Back in my day…”‘ schtick.

What Holmes has to say is not common, & not the norm. It smacks of resentment, bitterness, & cope.

Sure, when we take on board ALL that Larry has said, that can hold true.

But, just based on the OP and the general practice of a fighter saying “so and so wouldn’t have survived my era” - no, I wouldn’t say that was uncommon.

Hell, Larry actually claimed that he could’ve arisen from that last Tyson KD - but he simply chose not to because he couldn’t see any point in hauling himself back up as the outcome was already a forgone conclusion.

So, would Larry rather claim he quit rather than admit it to the obvious - that he was KTFO? Apparently, yes. Lol.

I couldn’t name another guy anywhere near as extreme in their views as Holmes. He’s a huge outlier among the great Heavies of the 1970’s. I’ve never heard Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, or anybody else talk like him. Absolute, total venom, total BS.

This is normal boxing behavior and the thought of a champ. Heck Tunney thought Holmes couldn’t compete in his era. Everyone thinks their era was the best
