Carl Froch vs David Benavidez at 168

Benavidez still too unproven for me to go against Froch. His biggest claim to fame is canelo ducking him. Along with getting cliched by Plant. Exposing Andrade and imo a lackluster performance but improved defense against Gvozdyk.

 

Froch...Benavidez hasn't shown me much. Yes he can hit and apply pressure. He's got zero footwork though. Ring IQ doesn't impress me either. I wouldn't call Froch a great fighter but better than Benavidez IMO

 

I like Froch and don't like Benavidez at all as a person. But Froch wouldn't beat him.

 

Answered this question previously. Benavidez cannot man handle Froch. That has never happened in Froch's entire career. Handspeed and staying in the pocket won't work. Power won't work. There's not really a scenario I can lay out for David winning.

 

How about Froch being very slow and easy to hit?

 

Slow, easy to hit.........but hard to hurt, phenomenal at absorbing, grade A durability..........proven. Also, all of these men IMO are just as good or better than David:

Bute (very fast hard hitter folded)
Kessler (faster, good hitter, elite overall, really lost twice)
Abraham (slow very hard hitter, dominated)
Dirrell (extremely fast hitter, arguably won but very close)
Groves (quick athletic hitter, melted twice)
Taylor (quick, athletic power house, superior speed and power, melted)
Glen (pressure fighter, out dueled)

Also, David isn't all that fast himself. Feet aren't fast, hands in combination are only fast when feet are planted. I think it would be foolish to plant your feet against Froch. Glen Johnson did it, but he was as stone as they come. I just don't see it for David.

 

That’s a whole lot of excuses for a guy who just wasn’t as good as Benavidez. Froch was closer to Plant’s level.

 

Benavidez and Plant are the same level..................Benavidez is better than Plant, but they are definitely the same level.

Froch is Ward and Calzaghe's level. Froch is a top 5-10 SMW by virtue of his resume.

 

lol no. Froch is one of the greatest overachievers of the last twenty years. He deserves credit for that, not absurd ratings in h2h match ups.

 

I agree he was an overachiever, but again, resume...............resume................resume..................his resume and wins shows where he falls in those terms. I don't see how that can be argued.

 

In light of recent humiliations...................

 

Benavidez would still beat his face off.

 

This is an intriguing match up. One thing I know is Froch is not getting knocked out, and Benavidez will be taking some hard shots from Froch during the exchanges. Froch had a way of making his opponents spend more energy than they wanted to. Good match up.

 

Just to be clear. You thought Froch beat Kessler the first time???
