After the Berlanga fight, we see that Canelo is at sharp as ever but its possible for a young fighter like Berlanga or Benavidez to take the punch. How do we think Benavidez does against Canelo now?
Tough to tell. Benavidez attacks more and that means more openings for Canelo to counter. Berlanga "won" by surviving...he wasn't really trying to win for a long time. My main concern is that Canelo stamina/power seem to be waning also. Dont know if he has enough left to keep Benavidez off him
Canelo should retire, his stamina and ability to finish fights is gone. He would lose to the same Kovalev he knocked out. It’s over
Zero chance he wins vs benvidez. There's a reason they haven't fought. That high guard style wouldn't work against a volume puncher, especially a guy like David who's long and can jab. Canelo would get worked.
This forum is pure comedy sometimes.......lol. Canelo's stamina is an issue now? He would lose a close one to Benevidez, as if Benevidez is a huge step up from Berlanga.....lol Only thing in the forum I've read that I agree with is that he should retire......and that's because he has nothing more to prove and regardless of who he faces and how much he dominates him, there's always going to be silly comments about his worth, the value of the opponent, and/or who he's "ducking" just because he won't stop his own plans to grant your favorite fighter with a great payday.....
Canelo has modified his style tonight against Berlanga More loaded power shots with accuracy Less volume Less combination That might be effective against Benavidez and would stop Canelo from gassing out I don't see anything scary about Benavidez after the Gvozdyk fight
Canelo fights of late have pretty much come down to can his opponents take his power. If they can't, Canelo will control the fight. If they can (Bivol), Canelo is in for a tough night. It isn't about Canelo stopping them either. Fighters get gun shy when Canelo lands on them and it messes up their game plan. They fear what's coming back too much. Then since Canelo isn't a highly active fighter, they end up going the distance. I say all of that to say if Benavidez can take what Canelo is dishing out and not be bothered, he has a very good chance to beat Canelo. If he can't (I personally don't think he can) then Canelo will do Benavidez the same way he does the rest of his opponents.
I agree with everything you said except Canelo stamina being an issue now. It's always been an issue. Emanuel Steward before he passed even brought it up. That's one of Canelo's weaknesses as a fighter. He's found a way to mask it throwing less with more power but when he is pushed to be active, he gases every time.
Gases every time is a bit of a reach. If someone is gassing every time they are pushed they would have more than 2 losses in 66 fights with 20 of them being world title bouts and not once has received an 8 count. Does he get tired? Yea, he's human. I'm not saying his stamina is elite, but an issue.......issues at this point would have exposed him for more failures than he currently has. GGG pressed him in both of their first 2 fights. That's 24 rounds of having a dangerous man bring the fight to you. There isn't a fighter in history who never took a set back to catch their breathe during the course of their bouts. Gather their composure. Take a round off. Etc...... All fighters find a way to accomplish their goal in the ring given what their body and training allows them to do realistically. Respect to E. Steward, but his word isn't law. Often times you'll have someone give an assessment about a fighter and then people run with it as if the issue is bigger than what it is. Similar to people claiming Crawford was "chinny" because he got hit with a good shot by Gamboa in between his combination. It was over pushed as if Crawford was getting hurt every other fight. But the same assessment wasn't being pushed with other fighters who were getting dropped by lesser punchers like Shawn Porter who was dropped by Adrien Broner, who isn't known for his power. Actually the total opposite was pushed for Porter......"he comes to fight"......"he's a dog"....... Point is, Canelo's issue, if that's what we are calling it, isn't a big issue at all if he is still effective and/or dominating opponents with it exposed. We saw him take a round off last night (I think it was 9) in which his output drastically dropped and yet, EB still had nothing to throw at Canelo to keep him from walking him down. So, if stamina is a "weakness" for Canelo......well, how is it no one is capitalizing on it.
David B does a Bivolian job on Camelo, wins an easy decision although as usual the judges will be reluctant to score obvious rounds for him. Don't tell me Saul didn't slow down in the later rounds...he did slow down. And both Munguia and Berlanga hit him hard and often. He has a granite chin so he is not getting ko'd but he can be outworked. I suggest Saul fight McCumby next. And easy win, maybe a long awaited knockout.
