Man this is a good fight (I think) but it’s been quite a bit of time since I watched these guys, when I watch some more Curry and Mayweather I’ll comment.
I could be off base but Curry wasn't that impressive to me. Curry to me reminds me a lot of Errol Spence. Come forward fighter who couldn't fight backing up, lacked head movement and relied on his high guard for defense. I think the biggest difference between the two is that Curry had significantly faster hands. Very similar style IMO. I don't see that style beating Floyd. Curry wasn't hard to find even before he lost. He would just out physical his opponents and wear them down over time. I can't see a fighter who isn't great at setting up punches, has little head movement and isn't hard to hit beating Floyd. Floyd struggles with fighters who are unconventional. They have a level of awkwardness that throws Floyd off because he is a counter puncher and counter punchers rely on timing. Curry isn't that IMO. Floyd UD.
Wha - I don’t remember this version of Curry even if it’s been a while. I don’t think there’s too much between Starling and Mayweather just some guys prevent themselves being great.
Maybe it's just me. I never bought into the narrative that Curry was a great talent who didn't reach his potential. I think he was a very good fighter who over time got figured out.
I don’t know, he probably reached his peak and the fire went out with disinterest but I’m not Mr Curry.
Curry is all wrong for Mayweather Jr. Curry was a natural welter/ jr. middleweight with speed, power ,and extremely skilled. Mayweather Jr. at welterweight wouldn't have the power or aggression to keep him honest, because his best fighting weight was jr. lightweight/lightweight. The way to keep a slick counter puncher from setting his traps, is to keep a jab on him, Curry had an excellent jab that was fast and accurate. Curry would cruise to a decision win over Mayweather Jr, . There's no avenue for May Jr. to win best night vs best night. for both men at welter. The biggest reasons would be Curry matches May Jr's speed and skills and has natural size advantages....
Quick career summary of Curry: 1. Beat a placeholder for a belt 2. Beat Starling twice. 3. Beat McCroy. 4. Lost to Honeyghan. 5. Got knocked out early by McCallum Thank God Duran never fought this guy or we'd have daily threads about how great he was.
Nah I know how his career went I’ve got Boxrec as a permanent tab - I meant how does the actual fight go?
