It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Those exchanges were something to behold. Mendoza had a very oblique relationship with the truth. He would get a few things right, even with some researched facts, and then make a contention (usually at Jack Johnson's expense) that was completely unhinged and provably so. Like all good things, it had to come to an end. After an absence, McVey thankfully returned. He is a trove of knowledge.
Those threads were actually written in the late 1800s/early 1900s. We should be thankful for still having access to such contemporary sources. Kidding Mac.
Now I remember there was supposed to be a meet-up and throw down, I think at some airport... Mendoza never showed and came back with some excuse. @mcvey was/is not a young man either, but he had had enough. Perhaps he can regale us whippersnappers in the particulars of this brawl that never was.
That’s hilarious, i saw some old thread about someone calling Mendoza a fat washed up Marine or something like that
At the Airport: - “The MAN Mr Mac said you’ve got to go back, ‘Doza knew he didn’t even have a chance…”. Apologies, but every folklore needs to be put to words and music to be forever immortalised….
They can both be a bit rude, though I assume youre referring to the fact that Mendoza was overly zealous I miss those times, feels like back when Mendoza was around, Marciano wasnt the whipping boy nearly as much, as he was from 2018-2022. Funnily enough I am on Mendoza's side of the Johnson-Jeffries debate, but he did seem to go into possible idolatry with his views on Jeffries. It's important to note that McVey vs Mendoza only STARTED as Johnson vs Jeffries, Mendoza and McVey would typically at times just look for an excuse to fight each other on unrelated threads as well. I was a late bloomer here but even I got to witness the last bit of it. Edit: Also worth noting that McVey was once banned, came back on an alt, denied it, then that account mysteriously disappeared once he was unbanned
This problem between them never ceases to amaze me, it´s been 15 years already ? McVey is a great poster, legendary even... I never interacted with Mendoza I think...
I'll say it again, McVey's knowledge is elite level stuff. I've seen him get grump a time or two but we all have our days. He is a major asset around here and I wish he would post more often. He seemed busier going on vaca with his woman and drinking Spanish wine.
Both these guys can dig their heels in when they want to ... As for the "fight" lol, I think their mobility scooter batteries gave out on the way to the venue. Would have totally happened otherwise though!
@mcvey he is a quality poster, I enjoy his position on certain topics as well as how well informed his post are. I actually enjoyed Mendoza as well, he was someone that was good at Devil’s advocate or just to stir the pot sometimes, but he was better informed than other pot stirrers.
Mcvey is a sound guy, I've got a lot of time for him. Mendoza could have started an argument in an empty room.
Mendoza was completely off the spectrum. He could, for example, claim an object was black, you would bring it to him and show him it's white, he would then claim he was typing in Klingon, a language where black means white. He would never concede to being wrong, which he was often, even faced with overwhelming and irrefutable evidence he was. He had absolutely no comprehension of (or if he did, he simply didn't care) how he was perceived by others. I rate Jeffries (and Marciano) more highly than Mcvey, but he's a knowledgeable poster and I've found him to be reasonable on every exchange I've had with him. If he thinks a poster is being unreasonable, he's like a dog with a bone.
