Again, not only was there evidence produced after the fact but evidence BEFORE THE FACT, strongly indicates Liston was injured when he abruptly stopped sparring a week before the fight.

Your garbage has been discredited many times in other threads.

I don’t entertain him. He’s a nuisance and not worth my time.

I have no problem believing that Sonny had an injury.

Good post mate and nicely balanced. A couple of things:

This a good find. But did they definitely follow this through? They said no more sparring a week before the fight, but did this definitely happen (or not happen, as it were)

In David Remnick's King of the World, which has extensive details on the build-up / fall-out from this fight, he mentions this, but states the person said it was 'still alive' that rules out Pollino (and Reddish) who were both dead by then I believe.

Has anyone here really said there was no injury whatsoever?

What's questioned is whether it was the real reason he quit or not. Fighters go into fights with injury and complete them all the time. It might even be more common than having zero injury concerns.

What the hell eight doctors did for six hours examining him when the machine for detecting such injuries wasn't invented yet eludes me. All they could do was basically ask him if it hurt or not. That they for some reason reportedly showed an X-ray, when that would not show that kind of injury, is quite strange.

    Liston fans:

"Only a conspiracy nut can believe the doctors lied or exaggerated or even that they weren't 100% correct in their diagnoses."

    Also Liston fans:

"The second fight was definitely fixed, probably the first as well."

Personally I can just say that they didn't have the tools to do a proper examination. And if they actually waved an X-ray around it's just weird.

Id agree, if there wasn’t a federal investigation on the topic. But he got paid so clearly it was deemed a legitimate argument.
I think the second absolutely was, POSSIBLY the first based on Liston and Resnick both making 1M each off Listons loss. But who knows. Im not claiming anything for sure on the second.

Your hero beaten, cheated and somehow quit?
Why he cheated if he was going to quit?
    Again nonsense from you.

There was a federal investigation into whether the second fight was a fix as well. But they found nothing.

So you believe a federal investigation when it favours your guy, but not when it doesn't. Thus proving my point about Liston fans. Thanks!

    Great stuff.

Throw this report from the UPI, Jan 19, 1964, into the mix...

"Friendly and obliging since his arrival in Las Vegas, the formerly gruff and touchy champion is concentrating on a punch he did not seem to need while scoring his two first-round knockouts over ex-champ Floyd Patterson... Sonny has been working especially hard on a jarring shoulder-high straight left while moving forward quickly. Thrown with considerable more authority than a normal jab, the punch has inflicted severe damage on two agile 180-pound sparmates, Leotis Martin and Jesse Bowdry. It has drawn gasps of wonderment from three to six hundred fans during daily drills in the main showroom of the Thunderbird Hotel."

First of all, calm you tits. Dont randomly go crazy like a little goblin.
I dont base my claim of the fix on anything official, I base it off my eyes. It’s extremely obvious he took a dive, a fix may have been the wrong terminology. Its obvious it wasn’t a legitimate fight.
The Federal investigation of the first was about an injury which is very easy to determine true or false. The second was a decision made by figures who had alluded the government for years and is basically impossible to confirm in contrast to a simple doctor visit. Im not being hypocritical at all, this is pretty obvious.

When one of Liston's "people" came out and talked to the press...he had with him what he said was Liston's "Xray" of his shoulder. Famed sportswriter Jerry Izenberg...who had been at ringside...said one of the reporters laughed and said..."I wonder who's shoulder that REALLY is", I remember everybody dumping on Sonny as a "quitter"...saying both fights were fixed...that he was a disgrace as champion...and now...the "revisionist" have Liston beating Dempsey...Louis...Marciano...LAUGHABLE! No QUIT in those fighters!!!
