I see that you don’t do context. The Parker and Ruiz wins were absolute stinkers. Povetkin was ancient and had just been put over by Price who’s British level
Better to win a stinker against a top opposition that to lose or not fight them at all. Parker won in a stinker against Zhang being put down twice but he won. And Povetkin was on 8 fight winning streak since losing to Klitschko and he was the best available opponent at the time.
Wladimir was rated as the #1 HW at the time. Fury was not fighting at the time, so who else do you think he should have fought? Wilder wasn't rated as highly as Wladimir then and his best win at the time was arguably Stiverne Who would you have suggested?
He probably would have if Fury and Wilder fought him like they should and he didn't encounter Usyk on his way.
It’s a poor list. The fact that he’s still comfortably the third or arguably the second best boxer of this generation/era shows exactly the amount of ducking and diving that goes on amongst the top guys.
So? It was still a stinker, and therefore to regard it as a feather in the cap is a bit weird. Parker was beaten by Dillian Whyte and absolutely obliterated by Joe Joyce, boxers who many regard as not much above British level. The Parker Joyce obliterated beyond comprehension was a much better version who actually came to fight. There's nothing worse than not coming to fight. He didn't throw a punch and the referee excuse is a moot point given how toothless Parker is. Mike Tyson and others with sufficient motivation wouldn't have let that referee get in his way. Povetkin was old and had just been dropped by British level Pricey. Andy Ruiz was a blob. Sunny Edwards would've beaten him.
Still a W on the record. On the other hand you got Wilder who stunk the place up with Parker, but lost every round. Whyte and Parker went life and death and Parker actually almost stopped Dillian as he was saved by the bell. AJ beat him off of first gear. Parker came to fight Joyce, but he was sick that day. He was overly cautious with AJ because of his power. Where did Mike Tyson came from here, lol. Still was the best available opponent at that time, beaten only by Klitschko and still regarded as a very good fighter. Wouldas don't exist.
The era was a 4 way thing after Fury ended the Klitchsko era. Joshua - Wilder - Fury - Usyk It's hard to assess Joshua's legacy, he didnt fight 2 of the other 3 and he lost decisively twice to the other. His best wins are possibly taking the 0's of Whyte and Parker, then after beating Vlad who was coming off a loss and 1 fight in 3 years, it's much of a muchness. Some good B level wins over the likes of an old povetkin, an old Pulev and a 280lb Ruiz. Theres a good consistency to Joshua's work but hes never beaten the big names and had the elite wins, which means he never quite gets the respect he craves. It does seem a long time ago since he had any kind of significant win.
