Yes Dubois has had a good night, fair play to him. However let's not be too quick to rush in where angels fear to tread.
l’m not so sure about that, Fergy. Daniel has a six inch height advantage, a five inch reach advantage and almost a fifty pound weight advantage. In his last three fights he seems to have improved considerably and has demonstrated a decent chin. Remembering Joe’s encounter with Big George, current Daniel might just be all wrong for Frazier. Who did Joe beat who had such significant physical advantages over him as Dubois ? I’d make it a 50 -50 at best, and lean slightly in favour of the much bigger man.
I'm very biased mate when it comes to Joe Frazier. Obviously he wasn't superman but I still pick him against some of the bigger, modern guys. I think I'd like to see more of Dan before I see him beating some of the bigger, more experienced classic fighters.
First round will quickly see whether it's a relatively short, brutal affair, or will Frazier have to work on those ribs and jaw before Dubois fatally collapses under his own average gas tank. One thing is certain, the moment Daniel shifts that weight mass to throw power punches, Frazier is bobbing, weaving, and coming back with an accurate hooks and uppercuts of his own. The ones that dropped Ali and made him bend in half during FotC. Prime Frazier was per statistics immensely difficult to land clean on, and those statistics included fights against quick, accurate, rather nimble boxers the likes of Ellis, Ali, Mathis, or Quarry. A great article by the Ring. And if it only took a good punch to get rid of Frazier, Manuel Ramos or Bob Foster would do the job. Frazier can take a punch, except Foreman was an all-time great puncher with Archie Moore and Sandy Saddler in his corner, sizeable sparring experience with Sonny Liston, and clearly an extremely good drilling as far as grappling and control games goes. George was specialized in his own ways, but he did the things damn good.
