See all of them all the way through except for McCall vs Lewis, which i wouldve stopped in round 4. Only specifically because it was McCall in a **** mood. Anyone else id let keep going for Lewis, since they could land that one hitter quitter
Willard quit. He was coming back in the 2nd and 3rd. He needed a Teddy Atlas struggle session in the corner.
Teddy would have set things right, it's all in the mentality. Dream, achieve, believe. Willard should have gone back in there and given Dempsey a piece of his mind
Which would have been pretty easy given that the integrity of Willard's skull was reaching its limits.
Willard was fine the next day. Reporters only observed a slight discoloration on his cheek. And the day after that he drove over primitive roads with no shocks all the way to Chicago. Any broken mandible or orbital or cheek bone would have been screaming in his head at that point. He had quit previously in a fight. He never really loved combat. Wasn't in his fiber.
The receipts are all in the reports from July 5-7. I have posted these. Jess was fine. Stop drinking the Flavor Aid.
Never said Dempsey made Willard's jaw do a 360 like a Looney tune or knocked him off his boots with an uppercut. Stories are probably exaggerated as the custom is with boxing history. The photos are clear though. There's a streak of blood from Willard's brow down to his trunks, Dempsey has landed multiple brutal punches and floored Willard multiple times. To say that Willard was going to come back and outlast Dempsey isn't drinking the cool aid, it's injecting the cyanide straight from the syringe.
Patterson - Ingo 1. Sometime after the first 2-3 KDs. That ref shoulda been locked up for allowing to go as long as it did. IIRC, the Machen fight could’ve also been stopped earlier than it was. Machen was on his haunches and getting hit - not dissimilar to Cooney teeing off on Norton. As to the recipient of the punishment ultimately winning, Moore vs Durelle, with Archie so badly hurt at certain points that there may not have been an outcry if the ref had stopped it.
I get it that Willard’s injuries might’ve initially been a bit exaggerated. But now it seems to have slung shot the other way with suggestions that Willard didn’t suffer any significant injuries. For one thing, didn’t Willard claim that his hearing was never right after Toledo? What were they, 4 oz gloves? The way Dempsey was freely hitting Jess, there had to be some fair damage inflicted upon Big Jess. Also, even though Dempsey was a bit depleted after his 1st round effort, he was still landing thunderous punches to Jess’ head in rounds 2 and 3.
Even with the knowledge of Golota’s injury and his clearly confused state in the post fight dressing room IV, there are still some who claim that he quite unjustifiably. Some people just don’t want to know……
