What it says on the tin.
    Here's some names to consider.
    Fitzsimmons
    Langford
    Marciano
    Dempsey
    Choynski
Which one should be number uno?

Archie Moore deserves a mention, He was still knocking people out well into his 40s and holds the highest number of KO's in boxing history.

    So strictly H2H & not P4P? I'd vote Dempsey.

I’d say Dempsey was the hardest puncher absolute.

All great P4P hitters on the list but Jack was also the closest in weight to the 190 lb limit imposed for the premise.

So we know he punched tremendously hard whilst weighing near enough to the max. weight allowed here - which is only about 2-3 lbs above Dempsey’s optimal weight.

Oh my word, all those men could punch like hell.
If I had to name the hardest puncher my vote goes
    to Jack Dempsey.

Half his victims were also rans and many of them middleweights.
You need to go beyond the stats and look at the names and their records.
Your arguments are very facile, you don't delve into the ,"nuts and bolts ,"of results as was proven in the Marciano v Liston thread.

Do y'all just simply believe the Army was doing propaganda?

I'd say that is fair, it is a suspect stat for sure.

It's odd to me though, I never see anyone calling bull or making a big deal about Marciano's 925ft-lbs for or against. Me, I do it sometimes but it seems like a nonpoint to the rest of youse so I'm more interested in that perspective than the question ... sorry Vey, I'll try to not distract.

So, 925ft-lbs, pretty sure that is similar to a .44, .357, dodge ram 2500, Ford f250 super duty, you get me? Big caliber guns, big engine vehicles, 925 ain't ****ing around no matter what other real world thing you look at. It's cool to be able to say I punch with the torque of a car, but he says truck, big truck at that.

925ft-lbs says Marciano, with one punch, can move a 1 pound weight 925 feet.

925ft-lbs says with one punch Marciano can move a 925 pound weight 1 foot.

    unimportant information?

Nothing wrong with you mentioning it,as I see it the problem is a lack of exact comparison,ie guys like those named taking the same test under the same conditions.
As that never happened, the validity of Marciano's stats is questionable, and of limited use in quantifying results imo.

Since their stats are unknowable you handle Marciano's like as if it is equally unknown? I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, just getting clarification.

Have you ever seen anyone actually try to debunk Marciano's 925?

Have you ever seen anyone look for video that could be used to get a foot-pound measurement? Or any energy output would be fine but not this PSI or pounds of force nonsense, it needs to be an energy read out.

It's fair to throw out the distraction because what you're really asking, I think, is more opines and technical breakdown rather than physics, but I think that 925 might be worth investigating. That, or maybe just looking at videos of bag work, getting stats and doing averages. Wouldn't be solid numbers but outliers should still exist and I'd be willing to bet the boys known for power also hit their bags harder, among them, some a little harder than others. 1 pound 1 foot, it's not hard math really... it's just a lot of work.

I don't mean this as a criticism, just to be clear. I'm just mentioning things at this point to save myself sometime just in case someone's already done this or started it.
