Which fighter in any weight class or time period is the most similar stylistically to Wolgast? I would prefer if answers were kept to just boxers we have footage of.

I don't think you can name just one here, Wolgast was special. The way he moves forward while slouched, relying on head movement, and staying really close to his opponent reminds me of Armstrong and Frazier. The way he bores in reminds me of Fighting Harada. A lot of his defensive maneuvers, especially on the ropes, are eerily similar to Whitaker and Locche. His footwork is unconvential like Ali's was, and the specific angles and positions he takes are incredibly varied, he works based on where he is in comparison to his opponent and center Ring. Gives me Benny Leonard vibes in that regard.

This is probably true, Wolgast seems to be one of the very few "one of one" boxers in the history of the sport. Are there any other boxers who share that honor? Maybe Canzoneri? Fantastic post btw.

Cheers, man. I would normally say Miguel Canto and Nicolino Locche, if only they didn't remind me of each other. It's not everyday you get to see elusive defensive specialists that fight by almost exclusively relying on their lead hand. Haven't watched a full fight of Canz to answer with certainty, so I'll take a leap of faith and say that he might be one of them.

You haven't watched Canzoneri vs Chocolate yet? I envy you, I wish I could watch that fight for the first time again.

I didn't know we had a minute of footage of Dundee. That was fun to watch.

Would be nice to see that film speed corrected.

The opponent looks like Two Ton Tony Galento.

I've said this on this forum before, but I always thought Johnny Tapia's style of fighting resembled Wolgast.

    Hi Guys.
Not really sure about which fighter's, but @Ioakeim Tzortzakis gave a very detailed and informative selection of fighters, that will suffice for me, shout out to @Greg Price99 he has from memory, on several occasions sang the praises of Wolgast, he was a lone voice at the time, either fellow posters hadn't seen him fight, or didn't recognise his genius, Greg is a visionary, his informative, balanced posts show a perception of our sport and its combatants that holds no equal, and is imparted to the forum with patience, articulation, and most importantly, with an abundance of humility, a rare quality these days.
    stay safe guys, chat soon.

He’s stylistically like a cross between Lord Littlebrook and Sky Low Low.

Sometimes there will be posts that are about making the "perfect boxer" by using the traits of other boxers. Most of the time people blend boxers together in a way that seems like it wouldn't make any stylistic sense. Wolgast seems like if one of those perfect fighters came alive.

Quite right, the result was a fighter whose fighting style just did not make sense. He fought as if he was freed from a straightjacket when the bell rang.
