I could see a debate with switching around any order of the next 3 but I guess

I could make a case for several to be in at 10 but...

Not that ratings are done this way but if the last 3 fights were a way I wonder how it would go...

Usyk - Fury, Dubois, Joshua
Dubois - Joshua, Hrgovic, Miller
Parker - Zhang, Wilder, Kean
Fury - (loss) Usyk, Ngannou, Chisora
Joshua - (loss) Dubois, Ngannou, Wallin
Kabayel - Sanchez, Makmudov, Smakici
Zhang - Wilder, (loss) Parker, Joyce
If done that way I think you could make an argument for Kabayel at 3 if done that way

 

Only in theory. Reality is he'd been in too many wars in his prime run and was done by the time he got his 4 years overdue title shot. Not Fury's fault, and still a good win on paper, but Whyte was spent by then.

 

Wilder needs to retire.

 

Tbh the fact none of the newer challengers except Dubois and Hrgovic have gotten shots makes this impossible.

The best HW is probably ranked 9th or 10th right now. Maybe they aren't even in the top 10.

Wilder is done. He lost two straight and got knocked cold in his last fight without landing more than a few punches.

And no, Chisora isn't top ten material for beating a 40 year old who had been brutally stopped twice.

Officially speaking Fury lost an SD against Usyk whereas Dubios got stopped.

Personally I'd keep Fury at #2 for now. Nobody else has beaten him.

 

I'd argue Fury was given the benefit of the doubt in round 9 against Usyk, something which Dubois never got. Personally, I think it's doubtful Dubois would have been allowed to continue beyond that round 9 that Fury suffered. Also wasn't Fury's favourable card by the WBC judge?

At present Fury has been blowing hot and cold the last few fights. And only one win was in the current top 15 for me: Chisora, who Fury beat in a dead rubber match.

In comparison, Dubois beat Miller (top 15), then beat Hrgovic (top 10), then dominated Joshua (top 5).

I can't see anything other than Dubois as #2 in September 2024.

 

McDermott did, even John Fury congratulated him and said “you won this one”. Also, the Wallin and Ngannou fights are very shaky wins for Fury. In many people’s eyes he lost those two fights too.

 

Dubios took a knee against Usyk. There's no possibility of it continuing, whereas Fury got up and recovered to finish the fight. Controversy aside Fury has simply achieved more and only has one loss against the best heavyweight in the world.

I do see the argument for having Dubios at #2, it's just a bit premature for me.

Hence "officially speaking". Shaky wins are still wins. Tbh it feels like a bit of a reach if you're using McDermott as an example.

 

The only possible alternative number 2 was Joshua and that's out the window now. I suppose Dubois can be number 2, but his loss to Joyce has aged like milk, and he did far worse than either Joshua or Fury against Usyk.

 

If anything, McDermott was the clearest loss for Fury apart from the battering Usyk gave him. Maybe you didn’t follow boxing back then, it was quite a long time ago, but it caused a massive upset in the UK. John Fury went to congratulate McDermott on winning the fight right after the final bell. Everybody was outraged in the arena, even the commentators were shocked and even non-boxing newspapers wrote articles about how it was a robbery.

 

If (and I know they aren't necessarily so, but giving an example) ratings were based on the last 3 fights

Dubois - Joshua, Hrgovic, Miller
Fury - (loss) Usyk, Ngannou, Chisora

Or if based on years, how many?
Take the last 2 years or so, say beginning of September 2022 to make a whole month

Dubois - Joshua, Hrgovic, Miller, (loss) Usyk, Lerena
Fury - (loss) Usyk, Ngannou, Chisora

I would rate Dubois above at this time
Parker and Zhang had better performances against Wilder than Fury, but I wouldn't put Zhang above though based on last 3 fights or last 2 years but could have Parker rated above

 

Not even Fury himself believes that.

 

Point being it's not really relevant to the current heavyweight ranking landscape.
