Lewis showed nothing in the first fight to justify a rematch...what ...twice? Had he not avenged himself as he did, you probably wouldn't even remember his name. He'd be assigned to the "exposed" and you'd be calling him a "bum".

Lewis was the defending champion against Rahman led on all 3 cards when stopped in the 5th. He also won the first round prior to being stopped by McCall in the 2nd.

Joshua was the challenger against Dubois and he was schooled from the opening bell. He was lucky to survive the first round and was dropped 4 times in 5 rounds. It was a beatdown from start to finish.

Guys like Parker and Kabayel are in form and in their primes but, especially in Kaybels case, they're seemingly just not big enough names for a title shot. Joshua has done nothing to warrant two title shots in a row.

 

Theres fresh matchups to be made and more deserving challengers

 

Big Bang Zhang or Joe Joyce rematch. Both in house Queensberry fights.

 

The winner of Usyk v Fury is the world champion, so everyone is waiting for a shot at them.

AJ v Dubois doesn't hold anyone else up.

 

100% but its all about money... if Dubois can get AJ x2 on the resume at 27 its pretty good

 

I want professional boxing to at least follow some degree of sporting logic. Not asking for much, just a bit. When a challenger is completely outclassed and beaten up and knocked out like that, we want the champion to find a new and worthy challenger. As it happens, currently there are about 4 or 5 heavyweights who would fit that role. Parker, Zhang, Kabayel, Bakole, for example.

Mike Tyson's defences against Tyrell Biggs, Tony Tubbs, Larry Holmes were entertaining. Lennox Lewis's defences against Andrew Golota and Michael Grant were spectacular. The prospect of immediate rematches in any of those cases would have been ridiculed.

 

Of course it does,
Just as Hrgovic, Dubois and Joshua were using the "IBF world title" as a route to the Usyl-Fury 2 winner (or the other belts if/when they retire and vacate) and some big money, there's a whole bunch of heavyweights who'd jump at the chance to challenge Dubois for it.

 

And Usyk will still be a menace to them all.
