Not interested in Dempsey-Firpo, or Haglar-Hearns, here. Name your fight, as boring as if might be to a casual fan, which was a showcase of one elite fighter using footwork, head movement, distance control, counter-punching, combinations, parrying, and all the other elements of the manly art of self defense to thoroughly outclass another elite fighter.

Emile Griffith vs Tiger 1 or 2 I truthfully forget which one impressed me, I think it was 1, I also think Charles vs Louis is a good fit for the thread.

I respected Leonard a lot in his efforts against Lalonde, whilst not remembered in legend I think Lalonde was a respectable fighter and it was a very dominant fight. If you can be loose with the term “Elite” then I like that fight a lot.

    We'll take it!

I believe Lalonde was somehow super middle and LHW champ at the time, so pretty elite. Always had the arm problem, though.

Yeah that was an odd situation, I think the common talk on it is so Leonard could win one get two. I haven’t looked into it though. I believe I remember Donny (who seems like an honest guy) talking about how Teddy Atlas would gas light him about the injury saying it was all mental, calling him a quitter etc in the gym lol. Does that sounds familiar?

For outclassing, watch tiny master Canto flummox huge punching Avelar:

For a competitive affair, watch Gavilan try and bring it to the great technician Billy Graham. Great bout to test you scoring skills if inclined:

Sure does. Atlas said it was mental in his book, as if he were proud of the observation.

It think he also wrote that he actually went to Lalonde's place with the intention of shooting him, but its been years since I read it.

Also, an obvious mention is Napoles domination of Cokes. A truly great performance on all levels of boxing:

As an answer to this thread… Napoles fulfilled the OP many, many times in his career. Unexpectedly to some… so did Jack Sharkey.

Huge Wilfredo Benitez fan here. Pretty much all his best winning efforts were God damn masterpieces.

I don’t think so IMO even as a fan myself… weren’t all his best wins highly contested or controversial? Cervantes and Palamino? I don’t remember scoring them, I haven’t watched Wilfred in maybe years but it still stands out that they were very close contests and not a masterpiece exactly, barring of course the Duran fight? I’m not sure maybe fill me in if you’d be kind enough.

You'll struggle to find a greater display of inside fighting with authentic catch-as-you-can techniques, head positioning to block/restrict his shoulder, negating the opponent's arm, whilst weighing in short choppy hooks and uppercuts, level changes, weight shifts, rhythm, combination punching. Palomino was a very good fighter and he was thoroughly outclassed, toyed with even.
