Roberto Duran vs Pernell Whiraker at 147

Duran opposition at lightweight looks rather elite compared to Pernell Whitaker's title contenders.

 

They both sucked

Duran's comp was very average

Pernell, Ramirez was awful, had no idea how to deal with Pernell's style but at least he had Azumah Nelson

 

If he is trained and prepared, Duran by comfortable Dec. The rounds get more lopsided the longer the fight goes. Whitaker is overrated at welter and Duran was always the better, more talented fighter.

 

Who, like he would do later with Julio Cesar Chávez, Whitaker toyed with. Nelson was made to look like a club fighter. The Azumah Nelson. The Julio Cesar Chávez.

& added to his victims tally here would be the Roberto Durán. Whitaker was that freaking good.

 

Sweet Pea would need a black jack to keep Duran off him. Leonard couldn't do it, neither will Whitaker

 

Ramirez was awful ? He knocked out Rosario and was very unlucky not to get the nod over a prime Arguello.

Based on those performances and the fact he was a 2 time Lightweight champion I think "awful" is very disrespectful from you.

 

Duran overrated ? Blows my mind

 

Whitaker. If it was at lightweight it would be a legitimate 50/50

 

This is hard. At 135, I think Pea decisions him, but as mentioned, by 147 Whitaker's movement was relegated to the pocket, making him a comparatively easy target, as opposed to the lightweight version. It's movement that Duran doesn't like, and even though he may miss a lot of shots here, enough get through to carry some rounds and earn him the tight decision.

 

Is that what DeJesus had?

 

Maybe not in describing how good he was, but in the context of how much & how he’s talked about relative to the other LW legends, it’s undoubtedly true.

 

Best for best. Duran comfortably.

 

Duran by very close decision at 135 in a brilliant clash of styles. It might be as close as a flash KD. I'd take Duran by a touch more at 147 with the fight still remaining close and competitive. Two amazing fighters.

 

Durán’s power was gone at Welter, to be fair though. That has to be factored in too.
