I'd back Cleveland, but Carnera seemed to have better fundamentals. And he had enough pop in his punches to keep Williams honest.
Williams cleans his clock, I was picking Carnera based on resume, and then I actually watched Cleveland Williams, he’s very underrated, due to him not having any decent wins, but in his prime he only lost to Liston and Terrell, the latter of whom he also stopped, yes he doesn’t have big wins, but based on the eye test, he’s much better than Carnera, better fundamentals, technique, speed, balance, he’d throw the slip left hook to the body, then come over the top with the right to take Carnera out IMO.
Williams destroys Primo in a boxing match, but in a bar or on the street I think Carnera tears Cleve’s head off with his wrasslin and mammoth size and strength
Are we talking about The Ambling Alp? Da Preem? The Gentle Giant? The Monster? The Vast Venetian? The guy with more knockouts than any other Lineal Heavyweight Champion in History, at 69, or possibly 72? Against Cleveland Williams? Hmmmph!
