They're just cashing in on their past achievements but they are mere shells of what they were 5 or 10 years ago. Fury absolutely KNOWS he's shot. You could tell when he saw AJ get battered by Dubois, he faces the same fate if he ever steps in the ring with a contender. He's an old 36 and he's done. Usyk's still a great fighter but the pain of the training and approaching 38 years of age, he's likely retiring after the next fight. He's not what he used to be. Even 1 or 2 years ago. Unless Fury can win in December, to set up a trilogy decider, I doubt we see Usyk again. Fury, win, lose or draw might still find himself fighting Joshua in another big fight between has-beens.
I am very certain usyk will retire after fury 2. My only hope is he will fight beterbiev at cruiser weight limit if beterbiev beats bivol. That would be a atg fight of the highest level. Undisputed unbeaten light heavy king vs the undisputed cruiser and heavy King at their natural weight!!!
I suspect that broadly you are correct. I'm not sure I would describe either as 'finished ' as they are both still capable of operating at an extremely high level, as evidenced in their first fight. And I think Usyk has more left in the tank than Fury. But, yes, in terms of their careers and big fights they are coming to an end. Both increasingly have the feel of being from the 'previous ' generation, just trying to put a final, final full stop on things. I do think Fury, in particular, would really struggle against some of the younger, hungry lions. Dubois v Joshua arguably showed that the old guard is changing
Fury at 350 pounds was boxing rings around dubious in sparring. He might have shots joints but he has enough in him to smash bums like AJ and Dubious with one arm same for usyk. Usyks and Fury regardless of their physical state surpass all their peers with their boxing ability.
Fury is largely at the end in terms of competing at the elite level. However Usyk is in immaculate shape and extremely fit for his age. He can go on until 40 at the elite level. We have seen though that 40 is the cut off point for HWs, once you pass that age you are shot 99% of the time.
I disagree Sparring is one thing and Dubois is a lion in his prime and growing in confidence I'm not saying Dubois would he favoured, we already saw how usyk dealt with him (controversy aside), but these guys are getting older and every fight camp and the fight itself takes something out of them at that age I chat to one of the strongest men in the world frequently who is roughly their age and every prep gets harder. I'm 40 and a former competitve powerlifter that now trains grappling. I am still quite strong, but recovey has been a lot harder these past few years No matter how skilled these guys are they will and have detoriated. Yes Heavyweights now have a longer span, but the body can only take so much To cut a long story short I would he happy if both retire after, or maybe Fury to unify vs Dubois first if he wins
In the normal world both of these guys are past their prime and would lose to a good top guys. Sadly HW division is weak and these guys are fighting each other.
Fury has not faced an opponent younger than himself since 2019. He struggled with an old MMA fighter less than 12 months ago. The days when he was boxing rings around Dubois in sparring are long gone.
Fury is relying and using his size and skills more and less on his body's ability's to produce output. How he has lived his life in the last 10-15 years is catching up to him. With that said it's not like Fury is shot but I hope if he wins or looses he's retirering within a year at the absolute maximum.
There is a decent chance it will be both final act in a boxing ring. For Usyk, age is already playing against him, but he might do it one more if the money is too good. Fury has AJ and possibly Dubois IBF title as motivation, but a bad loss in december could turn him off, plus he looks older than Usyk already.
Usyk has already implied the Fury rematch could be his last fight at heavyweight. He said he doesn't like putting on the weight for the division.
