If taken for face value then Moorer should win. But in fairness it’s not really a practical matchup. Rules and conditions were too dissimilar
Ruhlin footage shows Jeffries had plodding feet while on the chase which many accounted of Jeffries during his career, that part of the matchup likely won’t change. Moore will be far from stationary and force Jeffries to pursue and open himself up. Maybe Jeffries can use his strength and wrestling to roughhouse Moore and dig that left hook enough times if the rules and gloves allow him to.
If we are dealing in face value, then a dominant champion should always be favored over a transient one.
Referring to one as a “ dominant “ champion and the other as a “ transient “ one needs a little context
Also depends on the opposition that the dominant champion faced compared to the transient champion as well though.
That would depend on their respective levels of competition. For example Sonny Liston with just 1 successful defence was never a dominant champion, because he had the misfortune to come up against probably the greatest heavyweight ever in Muhammad Ali in his 2nd defence. How good would you have to be to dominate the likes of a near 40 years old 2 years retired Light heavyweight Fitzsimmons conceding 47lbs? A 36 years old 3 years retired Corbett conceding 27lbs? How skilled would you need to be to show your superiority over the likes of Jack Munroe 7-2-0 and John Finnegan 4-2-4? Would both of the latter even cause Daniel Dubois to break into a sweat? Moorer isnt an ATG,but with a record of 52-4-1,including wins over Holyfield Schulz Cooper Bean Stewart Botha Smith Moorer was a good heavyweight, only beaten by Foreman,Holyfield,Tua,and Castillo ,[when he was 37 and past it.] He was also a southpaw, and a decent size, standing 6'2"with a 78" reach and scaling around 220lbs.Jeffries would not be outsizing him, nor would he have 12 years age advantage on him,as he did on Fitz.
Little bit harder when your contemporaries are Lennox Lewis, Riddick Bowe, George Foreman and Evander Holyfield
Exactly! Contemporaries and rated when he was were among others. Foreman Tyson Holyfield Lewis Tucker Ibeabuchi Byrd Tua Mercer Bruno Morrison Ruddock Bowe Golota Briggs Rahman
