With all Riyadh cards now on DAZN, surely Warren is now signing for DAZN? With TNT out of boxing all together?
Still never getting a penny from me again after my royal shafting in 2023!! The Riyadh Cards are already beginning to show signs of decline with a female fight on Saturday along with a Charlatan Jnr mismatch. This time next year Rodders - we will be the only subscribers to DAZN UK.
Boxing may end up like the LIV Tour Golf, the top players take the loot but nobody cares about them anymore as they are out of sight, out of mind while golf is still flourishing in Europe and the US. UK fans want to watch live boxing shows in person and/or on TV and that will still happen in the UK outside DAZN UK. There was boxing before Turki and there will be boxing long after the Saudi sportswashing season is long gone.
Just took a look at the press release: https://dazngroup.com/press-room/riyadh-season-agrees-multi-year-global-partnership-with-dazn/ talks about distribution and digital streaming, not sure that means that this spells the end of Riyadh's relations with digital terrestrial broadcasters such as TNT? Maybe it would stop events being streamed on Discovery plus though?
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/30945741/fights-fury-usyk-rematch-anthony-joshua-dazn/ Still on all three for Box Office Nights.
I think this is exactly it. Key quote: "DAZN will be the global distributor and exclusive digital streaming app (OTT) broadcaster of Riyadh Season’ highly acclaimed boxing events for outside the MENA region". Global distributor suggests they can and will sub-licence, presumably to linear broadcasters. Whether that will be a simple rebroadcasting of the DAZN coverage going forward instead of TNT and Sky producing their own coverage, guess we'll find out soon.
I’d be very surprised if DAZN doesn’t continue to sublicense the PPV rights out to Sky and TNT though. We all know they have a limited footprint without access to those platforms, and they’ll want the reach that Sky and TNT can give as long as they get their cut from the sales.
The most important aspect is that boxing nowadays is easily accessible to watch at affordable prices. Mr Turkey is keen to drive the costs of viewing down and is up against Eddie Hearn pissing in his direction with a strong Matchroom wind behind him.
DAZN need TNT and sky sports even more. Would like to see the % split of PPV buys when it’s over the three platforms.
Funny you say that I'd be interested in the split, I prefer tnt but ended up on sky last time as couldn't find BT option
It is on TNT Sports Box Office on the Sky Platform on Saturday but for the previous card, it was only a streaming option on Discovery Plus. Exactly the same as DAZN UK both on a delayed streaming broadcast 1 minute behind the Sky Sports Box Office transmission and 70 secs behind the radio. Heard myself that Sky Sports was above 90%, TNT Sports Box Office on Discovery Plus 9% with only Dramashow and his 2 budgies watching on DAZN UK.
The best pundits and commentary are found on TNT Sports Boxing. Sky are very poor but DAZN UK are the worst by a mile but very few watch on there.
Pretty Pretty sure the hoards of casual fans buying these PPV's don't give a flying f**k about the broadcast being 70 seconds behind, its really not an issue, most I know barely manage to look up at the screen when someone gets knocked out let alone be annoyed at a 1 minute delay.
