Fight proves to me that Jeffries beats Johnson at least this version of him at this stage. Couldn’t put a dent in Hart and for as tough as Hart was, Jeffries was probably tougher, more durable and much much bigger by 1904-05.

Even if Jeffries still struggled with Johnson’s movement which I’m not even sure was still the case after Fitzsimmons began training him after 1902; I think Jeffries would still be durable, big and tough enough to walk Jack down and mow him with accurate body shots for a stoppage around the teen rounds, though likely at the expense of his facial tissue by going on the front foot. Better than trying to outbox Jack at least.

That being said, I do feel like the decision to give this fight to Hart had more to do with racial bias than anything Hart actually did throughout the fight. Giving it to him solely due to aggression is a cope of unparalleled magnitudes from the mayo monkeys.

 

Couldn't put a dent in Hart? It sounds like he dented Hart up pretty badly.

 

He couldn’t stop him or drop him though, nobody’s doubting that he landed practically at will but he didn’t stop Hart from being aggressive throughout.
