What did people think of the atmosphere at the fight? It could just be me watching it on TV but it didn’t translate well on the screen to me - I just didn’t get the sense that there was much atmosphere or that the crowd was really into it. I had to keep reminding myself that this was a fight for all the marbles as it felt a bit like an undercard fight in terms of the noise levels for a lot of it. Again, I could be getting a false impression from watching it on TV but did anyone else think it was a bit lacking? That’s no real reflection on the fighters and their performances, even if the fight was a bit cagey over the first few rounds. What did other people think? Was it the venue or the popular status of the fighters, who are hardly household names, or was it just the way it came across on TV and it was actually a more raucous atmosphere live (if anyone was lucky enough to see it there)?
we are getting great match ups at the expense of having zero atmosphere not to mention the timing of the fights is terrible for US fans
The crowd was like a hospital waiting room, without the drunks Great matchups but the Saudi fights will never be great events for spectators. Thats why they do the over the top "entertainment" to try and make up for it which ends up being tacky and not entertaining in the slightest. They fail to understand that you cant buy atmosphere. I would never pay to go and watch one of those fights in person, no matter who was fighting but they make for decent TV PPV's
The atmosphere's like Inoue's fights in Japan. I'd take great matchups over over-hyped venues and ridiculous scorecards anyday though. Plus Saudi puts on a show. As long as they keep making the best fight the best then I'm a fan of Saudi being the new home of boxing.
Don't mind the atmosphere but I thought there should have been more of a crowd. I always wondered who the audience are in the crowd? Do they get free tickets? I highly doubt they know who these guys are.
Us fans can deal with it. We been watching vegas fights at 5 am for decades. Atleast cor you guys its an midday fight before dinner and other plans on a saturday
Honestly, totally fine with it watching from home. The good fights are being made and it's fun hearing the impact of punches. I'm bored to tears of British fans singing "Sweet Caroline" anyway.
Hard to compare that to the 98k at Wembly and 2 UK fighters - it was always going to pale into comparison from an atmosphere POV. Myself I just focussed on the fight which was an awesome high-level chess match, with ebbs and flows and both fighters having to give everything
Their whole idea of entertainment is crazy as well. The crowd has zero atmosphere. Like a movie theater. The have this woman win a car she cant probably even drive, zero emotions. Music acts with over the hill celebs as if it is 2001. Firework and just overall the cringe saudi nuthugging that continues troughout. Its like a chatgpt solution to creating a fight atmosphere with entertainment. Might as well add in a clown or give everyone in the crowd a rattle. Despite all this due to the superior matchmaking of the actual fight and quality starting time for a European I prefer these riyad events over vegas fights. But its inferior to a british wembley fight though.
Yeah, my heart’s not exactly bleeding for US fans having to watch something in normal daytime hours when UK fans have been watching fights at 5am for decades (not to mention all the undercard fights before them).
It is clear obvious sports washing, let's not beat around the bush. Saudi National campaign is to manufacture an image Saudi as something appealing to the west. They're losing big money on these events but it's cents on the dollar in the big scheme
Sure, same with the 34 world cup. But its still a very bad attempt at atmosphere and entertainment though from a western perspective.
