Beterbiev is a few months away from his 40th birthday albeit he's one of the most beastly 40 y/o boxers ever

And Bivol is a master boxer and top 5 P4P

Many rounds were difficult to score and I will have to watch the fight again. I thought a draw was the fairest result but I might have a clear winner when I rewatch it. My gut feeling after 12 rounds was that it was harsh on Bivol for him to come away with a loss and that he looked better compared to how he usually looks than Beterbiev looked compared to how he usually looks. But it really could be a case where both won six rounds apiece it was that close

The rematch has to happen next

The fight was razor close, a excellent high level affair, and Bivol deserves and we need to see a rematch

If Beterbiev wants to move up to CW to fight Jai after that, and if he did there's a good chance he would be contesting for two or three belts instead of one by that time if the winner of CBS vs Zurdo fights Jai next, he can. But it's still too much of a risk and weight gap for a 40 y/o Beterbiev. Jai is much bigger, much younger, faster, and he's really skilful and powerful and like Bivol he possesses the exact attributes and skills to expose the areas a 40 y/o has declined in. If Beterbiev was in his prime it would be a different story

Amazing fight. I had it 115-113 Beterbiev, but 114-114 or even 115-113 Bivol isn't weird depending on how you judged the swing rounds. Problem is that there were multiple, genuine SWING rounds.

    116-112 is kinda nuts, though.

    116-112 Beterbiev is criminal
115-113 Beterbiev is forced and biased
114-114 Beterbiev is conceivable and kind towards him

Punches need to be clean to count, these are the rules of boxing, hitting your arms and guard are not counting punches, if the argument is that these are still damaging then he should have got him out of there eventually, except he didn't.

It was close but Bivol edged it.

I think those stats really sum up the fight, and why the difference in scoring.

Folks favouring Bivol can point to his accuracy, defence (Artur's low accuracy) and clear advantage in power shots.
Folks favouring Beterbiev can point to his workrate, volume & effective aggression

As others have said, it depends on what you like!

If you score fights based on amount of punches landed then pro boxing isn't for you. Try amateur boxing. And funny thing is, AB landed more punched anyways. So even on that he outdid Bivol.

It is, it's boxing. That and clean hitting and effective punching. They were practically even in punches landed and Bivol overwhelmingly in effective punches landed. So it was close and you can stop with the AB clearly won without doubt crap. I had it Bivol, a draw is fine. And it's a what you like fight.

Aggression and punishment delivered matters in pro boxing. Its not the amateurs.

Bivol landed some bombs on AB and AB didn't even stop. Just walked right through it.
