Era's... are they really 'much' better, one to an other?

Well, I know Great & Top fighters can nullify each other, making for a none too spectacular fight, I know also that it is silly & ridiculous to expect all Top fights to be spectacular.

I know too that great fighters can have a Flat performance or give a poor showing or have an off night, especially in the past when fighting every month or so... I know not ever turn out will necessary be a Barnstormer.

I/we know all of these things, BUT...

Billy Conn, Ezzard Charles, Lloyd Marshall, Archie Moore, Harold Johnson and God knows dozens more verse these guys in this Era.

Last nights Light - Heavyweight bout, Hyped Up to the heights of the Babel Tower, was very ordinary indeed...

are there really better Era's and Fighters, again I have to conclude, Absolutely!

I thought last nights fight was excellent ,and finely balanced till the end.I scored it 116 v114 to Beterbiev.

It reminded me of Turpin vs C ockell, a fine fight, sure, but nothing overly spectacular, yet there was more variation in Turpin/Coc kell, especially once the ref admonished them for 'not mixing it' enough...

in fact I've always said it was Turpin best visible display of straight basic boxing (both of them in fact), but with more variation employed than last nights fight, which I thought was very straight ahead 'one dimensional' demonstration...

none too spectacular and A typical of today's boxing, not every time of course, but all too often.

Neither Turpin or Cockell would see the 12 round against even a 39 years old Beterbiev.

Cockell did 9 with Marciano it is definitely possible he makes it 12 with an old Artur… Turpin wouldn’t because Turpin isn’t 190lbs so yeah I agree with that.

Turpin also was a Catchweight fighter as both a MW & L-HW fighter, who only weighed the divisional weight when called to do so... most of their fights were a Catchweight of sort until called to the Championship weight, excluding of course their younger early fights when they were still growing into the weight(s), they levelled out at.

Damn near ALL Fighters & Divisions operated like that back then when they didn't have 4 - 6 months to make a weight.

It’s a shame to see fighters not keep busy anymore and have those sorts of catch weight bouts, the weight loss process now probably makes it too hard to fight 6-8 times a year too, Wasting away until two decent fights a year stuns there growth, once they make it as a big thing and start being seen as a famous athlete… it’s probably not possible to go to lesser arenas for keeping busy type fights and non title bouts especially with the risk of losing leaving huge deals hanging in the balance.

it could still be done and EASILY, just get rid of ALL the Weight Divisions, dropping then to 12, with approx 10 lbs between Divisions and Fighters would be Fighting Near Enough 'their' Own NATURAL Weights, then they would NOT have to drop so much to meet the championship weight...

175 lb man for example at either side 5' 11" tall, walking around a 190 lbs, could fight 1 - 3 fights at 'Catchweight' Contests and only called to the Championship Weight Once or Twice in a year. Is that too much too ask of a Champion, 3 or 4 fights in a year???

it could still easily be reintroduced BACK into Boxing.

That’s an interesting idea for these alternate bouts, a good way to fair things up could be that these sorts of fights you’d have to weigh in on the day of the fight? Or ya know… undo what Eddie Mustafa brought upon us with these day before weigh in’s…

Beterbiev turned professional at age 28, after years of fighting in the 3 rounds (or 4x2min) with headgear Olympic style/"amateur" boxing.
He's 39 now, with only 21 professional wins.
This is why the era cannot compare to the old golden ages.
Even if Beterbiev and Bivol are good enough, they don't fight enough fights and rounds to fairly judge them against the classic fighters.

It's all speculation at the end of the day.

I have my opinions regarding which eras are stronger than others, but I am aware that they may be off the mark.

I don't think that there has ever been an era that didn't have some kind of strength somewhere.

they actually don't because they are not there, they are not in another era to their own. You are assuming because they are 'supposedly' Top of their Era, in this case, 'this' era that they could compete with other Era's...

but the Truth is, that an either side 20 or 30 Fight fighter may well Not be as relevant 60, 70 or 80 Fights in.

the only thing we can say with absolute is, that Fighters that actually fought 60 times or 70 times or a 150 times and were still among the Top Men of their Era's, Well, "they Already Did It!"

but the 20 or 30 Fight fighters Haven't and it's safer to assume they would probably suffer a good few L's along the way and in many a case might no longer be 'among' the top, than to just state, 'they would' be.

We definitely know Hundreds DID IT and the History Recorded that, but as to those who haven't it is speculative and that's all it is.

Fighters with what we see on tape take example MW, SRR to Monzon to Hagler, SRL.

I dont have any doubt they would compete any era
