Harold Johnson vs Willie Pastrano. Although Johnson is usually never seen as the “bull” he was forced to go after Willie Pastrano who used constant movement. Very close fight where some argued that Johnson should have been given the decision.

The scores being this wide could point at certain bias, though I never had trouble appreciating Norton's work more in those fifteen rounds, and I genuinely like Jimmy as a valuable addition to the 70's. Really knew how to trouble the crossguard as well.

    Thanks for the insight.

If you watch the bout Young didn’t attack the body much which Norton was rumoured to be weak to… Young abandoned certain parts of his game it’s said he was under orders to let Norton win by some familiar gentleman.

Crossguard makes the body punching lanes very tricky, and Jimmy is nowhere near enough of a hitter to effectively take advantage of anybody's weak midsection, especially not against Norton who clearly established he was willing and able to hurt him.

I reckon he did brilliantly, defusing some of the entries and landing looping flurries whilst making angles. The 15th was a classic as well.

Howard Davis Jr. had three fights that fits this criteria.
    vs Tony Baltazar
    vs Edwin Rasario
    Vs Mel Taylor

I'm sure you're right. Because of his lack of
power, Davis Jr wasn't seen as a serious threat
to hurt them by most of his opponents.
So it's probable Fernandez was aggressive against him.

This is a misunderstanding I see here a lot… a body punch isn’t about power its all placement (within reason) and Young is well within reason. Holding your hands up to your face also makes punches to the chin tricky but you find a way thats the game. Anyways discard it if you want but you should go digging.

I watched that fight recently and I thought Fernandez was a clear winner he was the aggressor uncharacteristically for him. Landed the far more effective punches and scored a knockdown for me it's baffling how he didn't win it.

Even more baffling was how much of a short reach Fernandez had compared to Davis. Fernandez is listed as having 59" while Davis had 72½″ and yet Fernandez still managed to knock him down and arguably won the fight. Perhaps the most aggressive performance I've seen from him but he got ripped off from that fight.

I think it had more to do with Davis being the much taller and rangier fighter, not to mention the quicker of the two which forced Fernandez to fight with a more come forward aggressive style. As uncharacteristic as that was for him he was successful and even managed to put Davis down despite not having much power himself. Most agree that Fernandez should have got the nod for that fight.

Yeah. Got at some three hundred sparring rounds and a broken rib on my curriculum vitae. Still just boxercising tier but I managed to give and take my fair share of bodyshots, all the work setting them up included.

Crossguard makes ribbreaking and liverhunting a very challenging exercise, bar the chink on the right side. Especially if they come back with uppercuts or are on the front foot trying to enter by weaving through the centreline.

I hear you though and I am by no means dismissing your take. Just taking note of it for now.
