Apologies for this 'repost', but these were my feelings from an earler thread...

I'd have loved to see Holmes v Foreman, either the young or old versions. I love George, and I think, an unpopular opinion I grant you, that old George was a better, more rounded fighter than the young one.

And I think old Larry comfortably outboxes old George.

You see where I'm going with this....

Young Larry's footwork, jab and chin for me means he brutalises young George. He's too shrewd to get into a firefight. His jab would have thudded into George's face and body for the first half of the fight before Larry administered the coup de grace around 8. Like Foreman Ali but a sustained beating. The fight Ali would have loved to fight if he could have.

Hey, I'm not here to be popular...

    Have a great week all.

    Peace and love, Philosopher..

Holmes hellish right hand would not be healthy for george. But neither would be foreman's punches, wich i think would slip across holmes defense. That being said, i think its a replay of Zaire with holmes landing crisp 1 2's through george's long guard, but getting hit in the head more. Holmes had excellent hand fighting skills and was arguably quicker than Ali, but not as strong.

If only Holmes in real life fought like the one described in this thread. Maybe he wouldn't have had so many struggles with the mediocre opponents he actually did face.

I mean…he made Renaldo Snipes look like he was Foreman. Does that count?

I'm starting to wonder if you guys have actually watched Holmes. He's definitely shown a propensity to slug like he did against Weaver. Whether or not you believe it's because he "chose to fight like that" or because he had no other options because his almighty jab simply isn't as divine as it's made out to be, is up for interpretation.

He also had a dangerous tendency to try to slug it out when hurt.

Foreman of the Frazier-Norton fights stops Holmes within 5 rounds imo. Larry had a very effective style but was always hittable and couldn’t adapt on the fly like Ali needed to, to prevail in Zaire.
When George kept his cool and fought with controlled aggression as he did at his peak he was one of the most destructive heavyweights of all time. I don’t see many beating that Foreman. Ali did and that’s why he’s Ali. Larry wasn’t Ali.

I agree with this, but here's my wildcard. I honestly think Holmes wins a firefight with young George too. Sure there is the chance he'd get sparked, George could hit, no he could HIT, but Holmes punches were sharper, more educated. Even in a brawl I jist feel Larry's grace under pressure sees him through.

George never had the stamina for a sustained firefight, he emptied his tank against Ali, looked spent against Lyle and got Frazier and Norton out before his gas tank became an issue. His one chance is too swarm Holmes and take him out early and I just feel Holmes is too savvy for that, and even if he got swarmed, his chin and discipline sees him through.

Good to talk brother man, peace, gbn x

Maybe so, but to me that makes it even more incredible that he emerged triumphant in that war.

I think Larry is the greater fighter than George, who could power guys away with his size and certain style situations, but at times a technical guy out boxes George, and I think the skill and jab of Larry would be too much for George. I pick Larry by late knockout.. TKO
