You can pick career or inside a fight wise.

Inside the ring, Archie Moore was as beat as a man can be beat vs. Yvon Durelle and came back to win. I’d say that’s the most remarkable comeback within a fight.

As far as career comeback from retirement, I’d rate Muhammad Ali and Ray Robinson about equal.

Ali cleaned out the heavyweight division before he had to give up the title when his license was pulled for refusing induction into the U.S. military. He came back and cleaned it out again. He basically had two complete Hall of Fame careers.

Ray Robinson retired after losing to Joey Maxim for the light heavyweight title, came back after 2 1/2 years of tap-dancing in France or whatever he was doing and won the middleweight title iirc four more times.

SRL's in the running. A semi-retired welter with a messed up eye outpointing a MW great, not something which happens very often.

Foreman is the correct answer, and it's really not close.

True, and he furthermore ran Hagler not only out of the sport, but out of the country all the way to Italy!

Vicente Saldivar. Came back almost 2 years after abdicating his throne against top contender Jose Legra and beat him. Then went right into a world title shot against Johnny Famechon and won the title back again.

Can't believe Eder Jofre hasn't been mentioned yet, he left the sport after his losses to Harada for 3 years straight (a very long time for a fighter his size) then came back to claim the featherweight crown against Legra and then beating Saldivar as well.

Jofre's comeback at FW gets my vote too.

BW to FW is the toughest jump of the original 8, outside of LHW TO HW, to make, imo.

Past prime, post a 3 year retirement, undersized, Jofre went 25-0 at FW, beating my #3 all time FW in Saldivar and a borderline ATG in Legra.

Jofre's comeback is as far ahead of Foreman's from a p4p perspective, as Foreman's is ahead of Jofre's from a cross over notoriety perspective.

Carl Froch. Written off after Ward. Expected to be sent into retirement by Bute.

I thought so about that, literally Duràn's career if he was more motivated imo
