If Canelo-GGG 3 was a fight to a finish, would Golovkin have won?

Seems like GGG mainly conserved his stamina throughout the early half, and then cleared most of the later rounds. If it was a fight to the finish like old Queensbur days, same gloves and rules, could GGG have possibly won? Did Canelo have enough left in him by that stage of the fight to finish even an old Golovkin? Would GGG gas out?

I'd go out on a limb and say yes.

Abel Sanchez seemed to be of the opinion that Golovkin had too much dog in him for Canelo, but that the problem was to get him into the trenches and slug it out with ginger. Despite GGG's reputation as a slugger, he's really not. He was a boxer first, puncher second, and it was always his instinct to use tactics and precision power punches to deal with guys.

Canelo has a big weakness and its his knees which I believe stop him from doing intensive cardio like a dude like GGG. He has a small gas tank which is why he fights like he does. He likes to pace fights out and let fly in spectacular bursts where his action is more memorable and the other guy's is not. A fight to the finish takes all of Canelo's finesse out of the equation and asks the question: who has more for longer?

I think Golovkin had more for longer and he showed it by stepping on the gas and taking it to ginger the last few rounds. Over 15 he may well have taken that fight and over a longer distance I think he grinds Canelo out.

Well what you have to take into account is that if Canelo knew it was a fight to the finish he would probably pace himself even more.

You can't apply the same logic because fighters are preparing for a certain amount of rounds and have a gameplan.

That's why when people say "if this fight would've been 12 rounds instead of 15 rounds it would be different". You can't always say that because a fighter would adjust their gameplan prior to the fight if it was more rounds.
