Was David Tua Ducked By The Champs In His Comeback?

Noneck brings up Foreman in a thread that has nothing to do with him. I'm absolutely shocked.

The content of course is complete rubbish. What was Ruiz's ranking when Tua beat him? What was Rahman's ranking when Tua "beat" him? Why the **** would those wins earn him a title shot? Genuinely curious.

As for Foreman, he beat two lineal champions........ while they were champions not some "oh well they didn't even hold a ranking when Tua beat them but they later briefly became alphabet champion lolz".

 

I don't think that there was very much to duck truthfully.

If he had beaten Barret or Ustinov them perhaps you could talk about putting him in with a belt holder.

 

I don't recall there being too much buzz on his comeback, even before the losses to Barrett. The losses to Lewis and Byrd had shown his limitations, and his last major fight had been the controversial draw with Rahman. His stock wasn't particularly high at that point, and when you add on a few years it was a long time since he had been relevant.

With comebacking heavyweights there tends to be a wait and see approach for fans before they get invested again. This is just from memory, but Tua never interested me on his comeback, and the only noteworthy thing was his chin getting dented by Barrett.

Using Rahman as a comparison, there wasn't huge interest when he fought Wlad, and even less when he fought Povetkin. A few years earlier he had been a player in the division.

 

Ruiz, Rahman, Maskaev, Moorer. Four to two since Norton never won a heavyweight title in the ring.

They were all either prime or serviceable.

Funny you talk about rankings. Foreman didn’t beat a single ranked contender in his entire comeback.

Unlike Moorer, Norton does count, since he would go on to win a title (unlike Tua) but I'm not here to entertain your obsession with Foreman in a thread that has nothing to do with him. Unlike you, I have a life that doesn't revolve around someone I've never met.

Moorer logged one of his best victories after getting destroyed by Tua.

Ruiz changed his style because of Tua.

Norton did not, at any point, win a title in the ring.

Yup and he immediately became a much more successful fighter after.

He was still a guy Foreman beat who later became champion.

 

The Classic forum was in full flow by then, if any of the active heavyweights were perusing David Tua H2H threads in here there's not a chance they would have signed to fight him. They would have cut for the hills.

 

Nah, he was done. 37 is old for a guy with his style and limitations. If he was avoided it was after he beat Fres, Moorer, and Rahman (IMO)...

 

Neither did Tua. So why is that a criticism of Norton but not Tua?
