Roy was definitely mentally shot after Tarver 2, and physically past it as well by that age considering his style relied on speed and reflexes. I don't use the weight cut excuse. I think that's always been just an excuse. Do you think SRL was shot at the same age at 35 when he got battered by Terry Norris?

I believe that played a big role along with Roid getting busted and being off the sauce. But how does that explain the complete lack of chin? Unless.... Roid was always packing glass. The diminished reflexes made it a fatal flaw.

So you think the chin he had vs Glenn Johnson is the same that he had in his previous decade long career when he was only knocked down once, and managed to move to HW to beat a solid champion with a decent punch? That makes no sense. The sensible explanation would be that once he was knocked out by Tarver his chin was no longer the same especially at 35.

But that's the thing Serge he hasn't got that deep of a resume so we're just guessing what Beterbiev would've achieved. Don't get me wrong regarding the eye test i rank him fairly highly and his win over Bivol is very good in the context of his age as i said. But alot of people also think he lost to Bivol and he looked kind of lost to me for atleast 9 rounds when he wasn't able to be effective or assertive with his aggression like he normally is.

I get what you're saying about some of Bivol's opposition but really Bivol is not a notable puncher he doesn't put much oomph into his punches and looks just to score accurate clean punches and there's nothing wrong in that it's just he's not a puncher. What i was trying to say though is i wasn't trying to discredit Bivol it's more like i'm saying Beterbiev took 50 percent of Bivol's power punches. And whilst people in this thread are trying to saying RJJ can't hit at Light Heavyweight, i can tell you right now RJJ hit with considerable power and if he's landing at 50 percent of his power punches then Beterbiev is in trouble.

I know Beterbiev will get hit with his style but for me he is quite hittable.

Agreed about the Amateur's but again Serge i think styles do play a role in how certain fighters are more effective at moving up in weights. As you're well aware Cruiserweights now are basically small Heavyweights and you had very notable big Cruiserweights like Breidis who i don't think Beterbiev would beat, Usyk obviously, and Gassiev who is a very big puncher at the weight.

Beterbiev would be coming at them in an aggressive manner and i'm not sure he would be quite as effective against considerably bigger men. I think just Lomachenko, Usyk, are different type of talents to Beterbiev and their skill, footwork, and being able to out box bigger opponents is very unique that not many fighters could replicate it.

Serge i think i have been quite fair in regards to the Tarver fights i did say the 1st fight RJJ was clearly effected by the weight loss. But in the 2nd fight he did look considerably better he just caught with a perfectly timed shot.

I do think though that the Tarver KO combined with the age did ruin him though, his chin and confidence never seemed to be the same after that for whatever reason.

I do think you're underselling Tarver's power a bit though Chris Johnson left on a stretcher and Tarver ended his career, he also stopped Eric Harding, and has moved up to Cruiserweight/Heavyweight and stopped fighters there aswell. Whilst Beterbiev is a more aggressive fighter and hits consistently harder than Tarver, but regarding single punch power i think Tarver is the bigger puncher in that regard his left hand had serious power in it.

As i've said Serge i think both fighters would be a dangerous match up for each other i just don't agree with that Beterbiev walks through RJJ easily like some people are suggesting in this thread. RJJ would be by far the best fighter Beterbiev has fought and his speed, power, athleticism, would be very troubling for him. And likewise Beterbiev would be a major threat to RJJ.

I just don't see why people have to discredit a past fighter to make the current one look better, they're two different eras and Beterbiev's journey is still going on atm I wish people would just appreciate both fighters and see their strengths.

I'm not going to lie I've had some pretty poor interactions in this thread so it's quite refreshing to just have a normal debate with @Serge who clearly knows what he is talking about.

    "John Ruiz can't hit"

Here's Ruiz being one of the few fighters to deck Holyfield with a single right hand and having him out on his feet 7:53 for reference.

He didn't beat a solid champion. He beat one of the worst and most fraudulent HW titleists of all time. John Ruiz was a total joke.

Roid ducked big punchers. You yourself said his decline was largely due to age making his athletic reflex heavy style ineffective. So..... Roid loses just a bit and starts getting caught with some punches that might not have caught him before and starts getting KO'd left and right. That's the sensible outlook.

By heavyweight standards he most certainly can not. Dropping a war torn washed up Holyfield does not make you a lethal puncher. Also Holyfield had to deal with all of Ruizs illegal tactics. That wasn't allowed against Roid. How do you think Roid would have done if he had to deal with almost every other Ruiz opponent had to deal with at the time? Roid doesn't last in that scenario.

I never said he was a lethal puncher but he wasn't feather fisted either and Holyfield was still durable. Ruiz did land some flush right hands on RJJ without much effect.

He can't have that deep a resume turning pro a fully grown man at 28.5 y/o and being ravaged with injuries throughout his 30s. The fact he has become undisputed a few months shy of his 40th birthday when well past his prime and only having been taken the distance once in his entire career and that was in his last fight by unbeaten super skilled a top 5 P4P master boxer who, as said, literally gets hit less than anyone else in the sport and has never been dropped and who is the worst stylistic match up for an old fighter with his style says it all and he has a hell of an amateur career and deep resume all of which he achieved whilst fighting with an extremely pro oriented style.

Again, you're acting like an essentially 40 y/o injury-ravaged fighter with millions of miles on their clock due to there 300 amateur fight career and decades of gruelling training is in their prime when no 40 y/o even one with way less miles on the clock is

Fans try to discredit Gvozdyk for beating a 41 y/o Adonis but Adonis didn't even take up boxing until he was 24. turned pro at 29, and he had 70 fights combined amateur and pro. He had a million less miles on his clock than Beterbiev does but he was ''old'' and Beterbiev isn't

It's not mere guess work it's pure common sense and I've been a fan of the likes of Beterbiev, Usyk, and Loma going way back to 2008 and I've seen how brilliant they were in the amateurs and I've zero doubt whatsoever they would've been just as brilliant and successful in the pros back then had they turned pro much younger and their resumes would've been way deeper.

If Crawford can become a four-weight champion turning pro at 20 y/o and all these other North American greats can achieve great things turning pro at a similar or younger age why couldn't Beterbiev, Usyk and Loma at the very least replicate their success? There is no answer to that. Of course they could when they're that super talented, skilled and tough

In ''puncher'' Tarver's 14 fights at the world level at LHW he only scored 3 stoppages: Roy, Harding, and Danny Santiago. Part of the reason for that has something to do with the durability of many of those opponents. The exact same applies to BIvol albeit I'm not arguing he hits as hard as Tarver did although let's not forget Tarver is a proven PED cheat. Bivol might not be a KO puncher but he can punch a bit and his low KO% at the world level is deceptive is my point

A prime Bivol landed 50% of his punches on an almost 40 y/o Beterbiev. Beterbiev wouldn't need to land 5% of his punches on Roy's lesbian old lady glass jaw to put him to sleep for a week

They do but, again, I've seen plenty of Beterbiev in the amateurs both at LHW and HW and his style has always been tailor-made for the pros and his strength, power and skills are so formidable that beating bigger opponents with his style is no problem for him. He gave the heavier Usyk much tougher fights in a format which favours the boxer than anyone I've ever seen at HW or SHW in the amateurs did to Usyk, including hurting him. There's a reason why that is.

Would I pick him to beat Usyk in the pros? No but I think a prime version of him up at CW could beat almost anyone else at the weight or give them hell

I'm not saying you have been unfair I just don't don't buy the weight loss excuse and never have

I think he just got caught and his aura of invincibility got shattered like his glass jaw did and his opponents actually stopped believing the hype about him being ''Superman'' after they realized that chin was very vulnerable

I'm not underestimating his power. I know he can punch and I've been aware of him since the amateurs too because I watched him fight Jirov back then. He just did not hit like Beterbiev though. It's simply not Beterbiev's style to try and take you out with well times big single shots but the power has always been there and, as said, Beterbiev's stoppage ratio at HW in the amateurs (CWs in the pros) against much heavier men is high for amateur boxing and it would've been significantly higher in the pros with small gloves on and no headgear over 12 rounds.

When world class HWs and CWs are saying you hit crazy hard you hit it doesn't take a rocket scientist to workout your power isn't normal

It's the same with Corries Sanders. CWs and former LHWs were gushing about his speed

Here's a physical prime injury free 23 y/o Beterbiev demonstrating one punch KO power with big gloves and headgear on

I didn't say it would be easy I just think Beterbiev catches up to him at some point and knocks him senseless or spark out

Believe it or not, I've always liked Roy, have uploaded lots of his fights on YT in the past, and I think he was a great fighter.
