Even if that were the case, at least he is fighting. What is the other guys excuses, why are they not fighting more than twice a year, at best?
In all honesty if that were to happen it will come in 3-4 years at featherweight on a rematch and a passing of the torch sorta situation. Later 2025 at 122 Inoue will win the first match then he'll move up to 126 vacating all the belts. Nakatani will stay at 122 and recollect every belt against whoever that wins the vacant ones while Inoue collects them at 126. Then around 2028 or so they will reclash at 126 in which Nakatani will win this time. Bubble wrapped undefeated means BS anyway, only a certain religion in 'murika worships it.
Inoue has to keep moving up in weight again and again, fight the very best fighters at each respective weight class he campaigns in, clear out the division, fight repeatedly in US to ''prove himself,'' meanwhile the cherrypicking favourites of his haters with their crappy resumes get to fight at home their entire careers or damn near entire, fight in one weight class or two after no longer being able to make weight, and even worse they cherrypick their way through them when they do so, avoiding the elite fighters in those weight classes like they have leprosy, especially prime versions of them, and repeatedly dragging up fighters from lower weights or beating up on much naturally smaller fighters
Although its true that Japan doesn't like getting boxers tangled up in endless rematch clauses which stall the excitement, if there was enough valid reasons to want to have the fight for both parties and the fans were willing to purchase the tickets (which they will), I don't see it being impossible. Not saying its a guarantee to happen. However IF it were to happen in the said timeline, that is what I personally expect.
I am just saying this based on their history. Japanese boxers don´t tend to take high profile rematches among themselves. Honestly, I can´t recall any this century.
Fighting 4 times a year is the way it should be. Until a few decades ago, that was the norm. A fighter's prime doesn't last forever. Even a great fighter like Inoue will eventually run out of steam. Enjoy it while it lasts.
It's thrice in a calendar year (and Tapales was only his second in 2023, so he's averaging 2.5 in the last couple of years ...and twice a year on average in the last 5, competing just once in 2020 and 2x each in 2021 and 2022) but that's still decent compared with most champs.
Full credit to him but it sure helps if you can get your opponents out of there early and fight less rounds.
