He used to be a great impartial shot caller, to the point were I would seek out his commentary over the usual Sky rubbish. Now he has sold his legacy in boxing to peddle DAZN propaganda. He is as bad a Smith in his sky sports heyday. Ironically Smith is great now he is out of the Sky ecosystem and I enjoy listening to him on talk sport.
I agree and that is also why I have deep respect for Carl Froch. He does not sell his soul to anyone and has kept his integrity.
Even without the impartiality issues, he would be better off going to Ladbrokes as his style is more suited to horse racing.
Unfortunately, it is the way boxing is now. Here and in America, which ever promoter is connected to a channel / network, the commentators will be incredibly biased to said promoter's fighters. I'm pretty certain Froch was biased to Sky fighters when he used to do commentary & analysis. The two things I remember most about Froch were being biased like everyone else and saying that he'd never seen the none Sky/ Eddie Hearn fighter until a day or two earlier when he watched a fight or two of the guy on YouTube. He got better over time and became less biased, but he certainly didn't start out that way.
Yeah, Hearn said in an interview once he would phone up Froch the day before the show and talk through all the undercard fighters with him as Froch didn't know who they were, remember in the Spence Brook fight he kept calling Spence 'Spencer', was so annoying.
Sounds about right. I was surprised when Froch went to Sky. He said a few times throughout his fighting career that he wasn't a fan of the sport and rarely watched it outside of some big fights. If I remember right, it was Adam Smith who talked him into joining Sky. He thought Froch read fights well even if didn't really know much about the fighters.
Froch is a flat earther. When you have found the courage to challenge the spinning ball earth programming, everything else is easy
Or indeed back to the radio where it works! I loved listening to Costello frantically calling a big fight when I couldn't be arsed with overnight PPV - only letting Bunce in when there was a natural break in the action but otherwise breathless. He's never learned the art of TV pictures needing coloured rather than described, and the unfortunate shilling for DAZN ruins him.
