Would Kenny Norton Have Maybe Troubled Fury?

Here's some whoppers from him.

"Norton 205 pound soaking wet" = even though he's averaged between 215-220 in numerous fights.

Compared beating Mike Tyson to Deontay Wilder as one off great performances baffling like Tyson and Wilder are at all comparable lol Tyson is leagues above Wilder.

Apparently being on the verge of being stopped on cuts and having the most punches landed on you in any of your fights is an "easy fight"

Oh yeah and he thinks Golovkin would have a great chance at beating Louis based on the Conn fight even though Golovkin has no resume above Middleweight nor does Golovkin have any similarities to Conn's style.

Some 1000 IQ points right there he gets my respect "sarcasm"

Iirc from when I watched the fight live, complications from the cut seemed to give Fury more trouble than Wallin did.

in said argument but which you chose to ignore. I guess the lightbulb flickered in DimPuncher's head but it's gonna go straight back out when he has to apply said logic to the Norton / Fury matchup especially with regard to the weight difference.

 

He lost numerous rounds in the 1st half of the fight and lost the 12th round big aswell as having the major threat of being stopped at any moment on a cut.

He won the fight on points no debate but it certainly wasn't easy like people are trying to portray in this thread.

 

Correct. And having watched some more Wallin, I can better appreciate what a good boxer he is. Thanks to Flores I looked through the Breazeale fight in detail (hadn't watched it before) and this guy can do a bit of everything. The only thing he lacks is a big punch. If he had a smashing punch he could be right up there with the top dogs.

 

Very good points, but...it's just my view but Norton's overhand right was a threat to most fighters, and he had a hideously great hook to the body. Fury can be caught with the overhand.

But all respect, your scenario is a well conceived one imo.

 

This. Fury has a great jab and even if it isn’t as good as Ali or Holmes it’s still a very formidable jab. It’s one of the only things that kept Usyk off of him, even while past it Fury’s jab was still snappy

 

A rewatch is overdue on my end then, any rounds in particular you remember Wallin exposing Tyson’s flaws?

 

I haven't watched it since it aired but I had it 116-112 I do remember thinking that Fury would lose to Usyk though based on the Wallin fight.

 

Pocket = Phone booth. Almost any exchange you mentioned happens at mid range where Wallin was moving backwards. Look at how close fighters are when they train to box up close with tires. Breazeales size alone doesn't mean that much, he's a bum just like O Halloran and that other 2 other 240lb+ guys Norton fought.

Wallin wasn't manhandled enough for it to take any toll, he never gassed against Fury, so it's irrelevant. Why do you keep mentioning him tiring when it never happens against Fury or Breazeale ? The point is Wallin can't fight on the inside outside of smothering via clinching or blocking punches, no counter punching, body punching etc. Norton had great conditioning and good defense inside.

Furys never fought someone as good as Norton on the inside, strength is not determined by bodyweight alone which is what you can't seem to grasp and above 200lb the diminishing returns start to become apparent, it's why Fury couldn't manhandle Usyk.

Norton has better conditioning than Wallin

Norton wouldn't do any better than Foreman.
Norton was 36 and 39 when he received his 3rd and 4th KO loss, let's see how good aj is at that age, since he just got splattered by the first punch Dubois landed. aj couldn't even drop Dubois who got dropped several times and stopped by Kevin Lerena, Usyk, Joyce. It's not like Norton can't hurt aj and Norton has better defense it's not debatable

 

I’ve seen you reference the fact that Fury couldn’t ragdoll Usyk or Wallin, but I don’t think that Fury when he weighed in the low 260s and under was really the manhandling type that he was when he was 273 pounds in the second Wilder fight. He was a bit bigger in the trilogy fight and against Francis but that seemed to be more fat than muscle like in the Wilder rematch. It seems like that extra 10+lbs make a big difference for Fury with his approach.

 

Wilder is a stick build with a higher center of gravity. Sure Fury is stronger than Norton in the clinch but Norton had a great gas tank and could fight on the inside better than either of them. I don't see Fury dominating with that approach

1) That's still fighting on the inside. If Wallin's smothering and controlling the action then it means that the other guy is being forced into inactivity on the inside and being forced to fight Wallin's fight at range
2) He did throw punches up close and he was effective. I timestamped it.

BS. See Wallin's comments. Norton has never been mauled by a guy as big as Fury.

He's also 25lb smaller

There is no risk taking it to Wallin then, you're probably not going to get hurt or get forced to work and defend if you're trying to get into punching range against Wallin. Norton probably hits harder than wallin too with a much higher KO ratio I'm not ruling it out

Wallin wasn't tired enough and his stamina isn't as great as Nortons. Look at the punch stats. Wallins output was more consistent throughout the fight. Fury exerted everything and was the one who ended up slowing down and got hurt in the final round. Norton kept his guard high when he was on the ropes and Fury has been troubled by plenty of 6'3 fighters and small heavyweights. It wasn't 1 way traffic then and it won't be here

Fury trained half assed for that one as he so often does for "easy" guys. But we are assuming a peak version of Fury.

... likes to throw body punches? Yes he does, and he's effective with them too. Not good for small man Norton.

Actually AJ could knock Foreman out as well.
