Which is a stupid take, because the whole point is sport is competition, and Parker didn't come to win. The referee excuse is only partly valid because Parker showed zero dog whatsoever. He came to fight against Joyce and got utterly obliterated. Parker's face was mark-free after he faced Joshua and looked like he had been in a car crash against Joyce, after giving it his absolute all.

 

Why insist on the rematch clause in the first place then?

It was in case they lost a decision or it was a softer stoppage / Ruiz type quit.

At best, Hearn mis-spoke after the fight. At worst, he told a whopper to try and build the re-match narrative. Here was my take the morning after the fight FWIW.

There was no rematch clause in the contract. Joshua's next fight is contracted with Riyadh Season there's a difference.

I don't think you can call it a duck; he fought Dubois and came up second best. No need to keep running it over as the result will likely be the same. It's best for both parties (minus Dubois' bank account) for both to go their separate ways and see what else is out there.
