That Fury v McDermott 1 decision is by far the worst I have ever seen. John McDermott was a clear winner and it was not even close.
There have been far worse decisions than that bud, including Lewis v Holyfield 1 and Ottke v Reid. Agree it wasn’t good and for me was similar to Macklin v Sturm and Sturm v Oscar, but over 10 rounds.
It is the worst for me by a mile although I appreciate the views of others. I had McDermott a clear winner at least 97-93 and maybe even 98-92 while Terry O'Connor scored it 98-92 in favour of Fury.
100% this Can't find anything online on why he just disappeared with no trace. But he had a super close fight that could have gone either way with Cacace, and look what Cacace has gone on to do.' He would have at the very least have fought for a world title and made decent money, so doesn't make sense why he retired early like that
What was the publics perception of Fury at the time aswell, was he being touted as the next big thing for British boxing as he had stopped all his opponents up to McDermott? Just thinking that with crooked O'connor and McDermott was never going to win.
I remember Fury's early days, he was a bit of a novelty attraction like Johnny Fisher was to begin with. Big lad with a decent following. Not a big enough name to steal a decision over.
