Maybe that's the case too, considering Tommy carried his twig legs till cruiserweight,I dunno about Iran being bigger since he's shorter, but he could be that stocky type of dude, both are still past their best tho, Iran was never the same when Duràn tricked him and took his belt, same goes to Tommy after all that weight moving and participating in stupid amounts of wars.

Apparently to some if you quit because you’re fat or didn’t act like a professional and prepare properly, it counts as a win.

Or if your opponent doesn't comply with your own preferred fight plan, it's still either a win or at worst simply doesn't count.

I remember one fight where the opponent kept hitting my guy in the face and the ref just stands there doing nothing about it!

Duràn was definitely making the fight close, but man,he threw away all opportunities by quitting,I'd later get cut up till death like that.

Rocky Marciano v Archie Moore (heavyweight title) (NY rounds basis)

    Round 1: Marciano
Round 2: Moore (scores a knockdown)
    Round 3: Marciano
    Round 4: Marciano
    Round 5: Even
Round 6: Marciano (scores 2 knockdowns)
    Round 7: Moore
Round 8: Marciano (scores a knockdown)
Round 9: Marciano drops and KOs Moore

Total through 8 completed rounds: 5-2-1 Marciano (actual scores: 5-2-1, 7-1 and 5-3 all for Marciano)

Always wanted to sit and score this one rather than watch the highlights, which I've done over the years, but even watching highlights, the one thing i always noticed was that despite Marciano's clubbing attack grinding down Moore, old Arch really threw some impressive counters. He did himself no favors by going to the ropes as that was Rocky's bread and butter. But then again, perhaps Arch had no choice in the matter the way rocky was bearing down on him. Damn hard fight and the punters got their money's worth.

I do wish to address one old story here, which Arch related time and again over the years, and that was regarding his 2nd round knockdown of Rocky. Arch always claimed that referee Harry Kessler cost him the fight. That after dropping Rocky, Kessler jumped between them, took both of Rocky's mitts and aggressively yanked them towards himself. According to Arch, this action jolted Marciano back to his senses (supposedly an old trick used in the era to awaken a fighter), this causing Archie's missed opportunity. Well, I watched it a couple of times and all I can say is what a load of nonsense! That was one of the quickest resumptions after a knockdown i have ever seen. Kessler got to 4, Rocky was up and the bout resumed. He did not grab both of Rocky's mitts (as a matter of fact, Kessler barely touched Rocky's left mitt), he did not apply an 8 count and he did not even wipe the resin from Rocky's gloves. The film was very clear on what ensued. I guess a good story can go a long way over the years if no one is fact-checking.

    Tim Witherspoon vs Mike Williams

    1 Witherspoon
    2 Williams
    3 Williams
    4 Even
    5 Williams
    6 Witherspoon
    7 Witherspoon
    8 Witherspoon
    9 Witherspoon
    10 Witherspoon

    97-94 Witherspoon

@scartissue i decided to watch this after seeing your write up i scored it a bit differently to you but both of our scorecards were in line with two of the judges.

A decent Heavyweight fight Witherspoon on the comeback trail after his bad defeat to Bonecrusher, Witherspoon was in good shape for this one but Williams who was known as Union Cane in Rocky 5 did give Witherspoon a competitive fight.

Witherspoon started off well in the 1st round rocking Williams with a big over hand right and almost knocking him down, possibly this could've been scored a 10-8 round the commentator thought so but i just scored it 10-9.

After the big 1st round though Williams did give Witherspoon problems boxing on outside using good movement and out jabbing and outworking Witherspoon and i thought Williams had a good spell between rounds 2-5.

With Williams having a slight lead on my card after the first 5 rounds i thought Witherspoon turned it around in the 2nd half of the fight and swept all the remaining rounds on my card by landing the more harder effective punches that visibly stunned/wobbled Williams. And despite Williams remaining competitive his movement slowed down and he got more involved into exchanging punches rather than boxing on the outside which he had success with earlier. And for me personally i score the more effective harder punches and it was quite apparent to me Witherspoon landed all the eye catching punches that visibly hurt his man in the 2nd half of the fight.

Before i finish this write up i have to mention the judges scorecards two of them had Witherspoon winning with pretty reasonable scores of 97-94 which is what i had it and 96-94. But the other judge had it 98-92 in favour of Williams ? that's probably one of the worst scorecards i've ever seen what fight was he watching ? Not even Williams's own mother could come up with such a ridiculous scorecard.

Watching this... a completely forgotten FOTY contender. Wonder if perception of Yory would be any different if he had been given the nod in any of his close fights on the road.

    Harold Johnson SD10 Ezzard Charles
    Round 1: Harold 5-4
    Round 2: Ezzard 9-9
    Round 3: draw 14-14
    Round 4: draw 19-19
    Round 5: Harold 24-23
    Round 6: draw 29-28
    Round 7: draw 34-33
    Round 8: draw 39-38
    Round 9: draw 44-43
    Round 10: Ezzard 47-48
Review:very close fights that while I had both drawing on rounds,a fight Ezzard narrowly won via knockdown, shame that the ref didn't count, but Johnson...he had a very good technique, textbook boxer with polished moves of a modern one, with the old school touches still, but Ezzard was an awesome boxer puncher,he can fight on all angles and range, and when he lets those guns out he was a good hitter, too bad there's not much footage of both.

Was combing through what Jaime Garza footage I had and wondering if he was the goods that a 38-0 (37 KO) record would indicate. What do you guys think?

Fun to watch, huge puncher, but not much else. Meza putting him out in 1 showed his Achilles heel(s), a poor chin and poor defense. He was never going to last long with those flaws.

Total: 117-113 Ouma (actual scores: 117-110, 114-113 and another 114-113 all for Ouma)

D, you were on the money when you said it was nothing like their first fight. It had its moments but it really started bogging down with clinches as Phillips tired. I must admit to tiring a bit myself while watching it. I think I watched the 10th round 3 times and I'm still inconclusive about it as my eyes were crossing. I do agree with you on the 11th. I'm a bit conservative in my scores, but I wouldn't bat an eye if anyone else scored it 10-8. But I hope no one takes this as a recommendation because I would advise anyone to give this fight a wide berth.
