    Mills certainly stops the fight.

Maybe, but I do think Mills would have been alot more aware of that red light flashing in the corning signifying 10 seconds or less remaining in the fight. IMO of course.

Naa Mill's would have let it go on, no doubt in my mind.

The ref is right in his face. Counting with his fingers right in Meldrick’s face. A man a foot or so away is asking him if he can/wants to continue. Twice.

Yet Meldrick is staring off into the distance to this right. He’s oblivious to where he is and what’s going on or he would have nodded emphatically and said yes. Which he did not do because he was in la-la land.

The object of boxing is to win more rounds (by enough points) than your opponent to get a decision OR to render him unable to continue. Chavez rendered Meldrick unable to continue.

The ref’s job is not to call timeout, assess how many seconds are left in the round, get a tape measure to determine how much ground the fighter in the neutral corner has to traverse to hit the guy again and calculate how many seconds there are left in the round to accomplish that — it’s to determine if the guy in that very moment has the faculties to continue. Taylor absolutely did not.

    KO. Over.

If Meldrick was looking into his corner to determine how much time was left, that’s further evidence that he was coo-coo for cocoa-puffs out of it, as there was not a clock counting down the round located in his corner.

Like someone said in another thread, Lou Duva was a cause of this early call with his incessant screaming

No, and neither does any other ref not in Don King's pocket

I don't think his focus would have been on that. Lane would be looking at the fighters condition.

Taylor was a beaten fighter physically. Steele did look right into Taylor's eyes ask twice if he was ok. Technically Taylor would have been DQd because Lou Duva jumped up on the ring apron.

I could understand a controversy if Taylor had eluded Chavez for 11+ rounds and Julio just landed one big punch. In reality though Chavez administered a methodical beating on the inside throughout the bout.

Taylor was exchanging with JCC and his punches were so fast flashy but JCC was landing as well. His were the damaging ones.

HBO broadcast is responsible for much of the controversy at least to the extent it got to. Instead of just calling the action as it happened. They favored Taylor to the extreme. 11-0 rounds? For Taylor. His face was practically falling off.
