It has been called "arguably the greatest sporting event of the 20th century" and was a major upset

Foreman laid an egg in this fight and won 1 round maybe 2 before getting stopped in round 8. It was an important moment in boxing history and set the tone for the next 23 years of the HW division. If this fight doesn't happen boxing history would look very very different. But objectively speaking it was not a good fight.

It probably didn't deserve fight of the year and calling it "the greatest sporting event of the 20th century" is pure insanity. It was an impactful fight not a good one.

But less people were aware of it globally and the rumble in the jungle is still celebrated to this day, they even based when they were kings around the whole event and that was released in 1996.

Yeah the whole world was about to explode and this fight was literally a front in that.

And there's the racial implication as well. It wasn't just that America's chosen fighter KO'd Germany's chosen fighter in the first round. It was that America's chosen fighter was a black man who did this.

The greatest sports moment of the 20th century is a good lounge thread topic. I'm certainly not an expert on other sports (hell I'm not even an expert on boxing) but I would say that these all have to be in the running:

Hank Aaron breaking Babe Ruth's record
    The hand of god
Jordan's last shot as a Chicago Bull
    Jesse Owens in Germany
    Bill Mazeroski's walkoff homerun
    The miracle on Ice
    "Touch em all Joe!"

I`m confused, a lot of people worldwide didn`t know about Louis v Max.

Jesse Owens in Germany maybe, the hand of God is iconic but the goal Maradonna scored after that is more iconic as for the rest of those moments as a Brit I`ve never even heard of them.

I t wasn`t, only Germans and Americans would have really known about it, maybe it was known in the UK too, but no UK newspaper mentioned Max v Joe too on it`s 50th anniversary.

Whatever, you are going to believe what you believe and you are not going to change my mind or get me to agree with you, so I am tapping out of this conversation.

You're telling me you've never once in your life seen the picture of Jordan shooting the final shot in the 1998 finals? I understand that my list was U.S centric, I am American afterall but I still feel all of these are genuine contenders except for maybe "Touch em all Joe!"

Love the Rumble but I agree with this. FOTC was the biggest night ever
