There's levels to it, I wouldn't call Usyk basic, but certainly "more" basic than Canelo. I guess I would put it to you like this, over his career, Canelo has shown an impressive skill set, but lately he hasn't been using as much head movement for example. If that's the avenue that you could use to say Usyk has better defense now than Canelo has shown in recent fights, that's certainly arguable. On the other hand Canelo has been pretty dominant in how he dispatched Munguia and Berlanga, and producing sensational knockdowns.

So I agree about Canelo having more offensive ability, and while I think Canelo has shown he has better defensive capabilities, I would grant you that in recent fights maybe Canelo hasn't shown the kind of high level defense to the extent he showed earlier in his career. i.e. skillfully using footwork and upper body movement, impressive ropes work making GGG miss in their first fight, or that dazzling sequence of head movement against Daniel Jacobs making him look silly.

We haven't seen "that" Canelo in a while so from that standpoint you can make the argument that Usyk has shown better defense presently and has been harder to hit clean with big shots. Still that's essentially a wash if you conclude that Canelo has more offensive ability and that Usyk has maybe tighter defense at this stage. My point is simply that over his career Canelo has showcased a far better arsenal of offense and defense than Usyk has. But I would grant you that if we're looking at recent fights, Usyk you could say has been harder to hit clean. He has really tight defense I'll give you that.

Usyk has beat all the belt holders as well as picking up the Lineal Title and also beat Dubois arguably the best of the next generation.

Usyk has not fought at as high a level of Canelo ! In 22 pro fights Usyk has gone Undisputed in two different Divisions, with 11 of these fights being World title fights. In these 22 fights he has beaten 5 World champions. In Canelo’s first 22 fights he had not fought for a title and did not even fight for a World title until his 37th fight iirc. Canelo also vacated the WBC middleweight belt to delay the fight with GGG,that was a big quack !

I don't rate Dubois like that at the moment Dubois has lost to Joyce and looked terrible against Lerena that fight was suspect. He didn't dominate Miller either, headbutted Hrgovic into smithereens and "arguably" the Usyk fight is controversial. Usyk has a good resume and proven himself to be the number 1 heavyweight in the world but he still hasn't cleared heavyweight division as a whole

Who does he need to beat then to clear the Division ? I’m happy he beat both Heavyweight Champions for all the belts and titles as well as doing it being considerably the smaller fighter ?

He doesn't need to beat anyone he can retire right now, he's won every belt, he just didn't clear the division. There's Kabayel whos on the rise as well as Bakole after some obscurity, Parker and Ajagba have been on strong comebacks

    Canelo needs gifts. Usyk doesn't.
